Daredevil Star Vincent D'Onofrio Responds to Marvel Fan Hopes for Hawkeye Appearance
Even with a jam-packed schedule for the MCU over the next few months, the team at Marvel Studios has still found ways to keep fans looking forward to more. Marvel has taken that time to deliver a handful of thrilling trailers, most recently the first for Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye coming to Disney+.
As is usually with MCU trailers, this one only teased a small portion of what's coming by showing off Clint Barton's family life and providing the first full look at Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop. There was even a short peek at Alaqua Cox's Echo, although the MCU's fifth Disney+ entry of 2021 still has plenty of surprises up its sleeve to show the world.
One aspect of the show that remains a mystery is who the villain will be, although the rumors have already started in that department, potentially pointing to something big coming to the series.
In late July 2021, online whispers pointed to the prospect of Vincent D'Onofrio reprising his Kingpin role from Netflix's Daredevil in the Hawkeye Disney+ series. This came on top of the even juicier rumors that Charlie Cox would make a comeback as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which would make for potentially the second Daredevil character to enter the Marvel Studios playground.
With the excitement building over the chances that these actors and characters will be returning, the actor behind the Hell's Kitchen villain has given his own take on the matter.
Vincent D'Onofrio Addresses Kingpin Rumors
Daredevil star Vincent D'Onofrio took to Twitter to speak on the rumors that he will reprise the role of Kingpin in Marvel Studios' Hawkeye, which debuts on November 24.
Most recently, he shared a mysterious poem about roaches that ended with a mention of a "Great White Shark." Some fans took this to be an indirect reference to the villainous Kingpin:
The roach doesn't come when it's called.

They only move intentionally.
Their needs are what drives them.
Roaches are blind to anything but necessity.
Thank god they are so small.
So you see I'm not alone said the curious Great
White Shark.
Although, it is comforting I'm bigger.
Another poem mentioned a "three legged dog," which fans saw as a nod to Lucky The Pizza Dog before his MCU debut in the Disney+ show:
The three legged dog.

run'n, jump'n and with an incredible case of the wiggles.
This dog does not ask for pity.
This dog looks up to us.
Wants to know what's next.
Head tilted it says.
Where should we go,
what should we do?
Why are we waiting?
I say to myself.
This dog is right
D'Onofrio followed these up with a similar poem, but one that said it was "silly to look deeper" into the messages he released on social media and that he's been doing it "for years." In the end, he didn't confirm anything for Hawkeye, but he admitted enjoying his time playing the role in Daredevil:
Silly to look deeper into the little pieces I write.

I've been writing them for years now.
Although I appreciate the fandom.
Because I loved playing him in @daredevil
A Mystery Surrounding Wilson Fisk
Vincent D'Onofrio hasn't been one to flat out deny these rumors either, as he was seen liking numerous social media posts supporting his version of the Kingpin of Crime. After his run as one of the most popular villains from the Netflix shows leading up to The Defenders, it was only natural for fans to want him in the canon story in some capacity.
Although this doesn't seem like a firm denial in terms of his return, fans will still be keeping a close eye on stories such as his. Any chance of the Netflix universe joining the MCU will raise eyebrows across the fandom, although it will only be a matter of time until secrets like this come to light.
Hawkeye will premiere on Disney+ on November 24, 2021.
