Marvel fans are in for a wild ending to 2021 with three new projects on the way in theaters and on Disney+. The MCU will be expanding its content log with Eternals and Spider-Man: No Way Home on the big screen and Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye coming in as the last of five streaming series in the calendar year.

Through all of these new entries, one major question mark that still looms over the franchise is some of Marvel's past outings from Netflix and ABC, whose canonicity to the movies has been unclear for years.

Multiple rumors have pointed to Phase 4 changing this status for the better with possible appearances by old Netflix-based characters coming this year. Leading the pack in this department are teases of Charlie Cox reprising his Matt Murdock in the Spider-Man threequel and Vincent D'Onofrio bringing his Kingpin into Hawkeye in November.

As is the case with all MCU movies and the rumors that surround them, nothing will be confirmed until these projects are available for the public to enjoy. However, this isn't toning down a desire for these heroes and villains to be officially made canon in a Marvel Studios project, even from the actors playing them.

Daredevil star Vincent D'Onofrio spoke with ScreenRant about the possibility of returning to play Kingpin within the MCU again.

Specifically, the actor addressed rumors pointing to this comeback happening in November's Hawkeye on Disney+, which he takes as "a compliment." D'Onofrio held back nothing in saying that he "so badly (wants) to play that character again" and that he's anxiously waiting for the call from Marvel to make it happen:

"I do take it as a compliment. I so badly want to play that character again. I love that character. I just have to wait for Marvel to ask me. I think it's very clear that I would, and the fans know that I would jump at the chance to play again. I just need to be asked."

"I Just Need to Be Asked."

Vincent D'Onofrio received heaps of praise for his portrayal of Wilson Fisk, which he delivered to 27 episodes of Marvel's Daredevil between 2015 and 2018. With a nuanced performance combined with a sheer sense of raw power, fans gravitated to his villain as he unleashed hell over Hell's Kitchen.

Even besides the feeling of satisfaction D'Onofrio had with this series, it's abundantly clear that he simply loves playing the character and would do it again in a heartbeat.

Amidst the rumors pointing to his inclusion in Hawkeye, the actor made waves on social media by liking numerous posts on Twitter that were in favor of Kingpin coming to Hawkeye. While it will be a long game of wait-and-see until his return is either confirmed or denied, this rumor won't be losing any steam as the show's release inches closer.

Hawkeye will debut on Disney+ on November 24, 2021.
