Doctor Strange 2 Rumor Reveals Exactly How Much Time Has Past Since WandaVision
Warning - This article contains minor spoilers for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Even though there are two MCU films ahead of Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, anticipation for the 2022 film has been on the rise as it appears Marvel Studios has bigger plans for it than that of just a sequel.
While rumors suggest an ever-growing cast list of Marvel stars and possible connections to What If...? on Disney+, it's no secret that WandaVision - which starred Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff's Scarlet Witch - is directly connected to the Strange sequel.
Due to her newfound identity - and that cliffhanger of a post-credits scene - her effect on the multiverse is sure to be epic.
Since the Disney+ series does feed into Multiverse of Madness, one of the biggest questions fans have is how much time will have passed between the events of the series and the film.
Well, there may already be an answer to that.
The Time Between WandaVision and Doctor Strange 2
A new rumor from the Cosmic Circus suggests that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will pick up two years after the events of WandaVision.
Since Avengers: Endgame took place five years after Thanos' snap in Avengers: Infinity War, the present-day MCU is circa-2023; and it's well-established that WandaVision occurs in the wake of both snaps.
What's interesting is that - on Disney+ - the timeline order for the Marvel Cinematic Universe has WandaVision occurring after both Loki and What If...?. This is especially significant considering both series deal with the multiverse.
Also, while Wanda has been busy creating sitcom realities, Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange hasn't just been hanging out in the Sanctum Santorum.
As the record-breaking trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home revealed, Doctor Steven Strange is involved in the Spidey threequel which also dives into the multiverse.
Strange Times Ahead for The MCU
Two years is a long time for Wanda to be looking for her boys, Tommy and Billy. Although, it's worth noting that audiences don't know how much time passed between her leaving Westview and that post-credits moment in the cabin.
Along those same lines, fans don't know exactly when in the MCU timeline Peter Parker pays that visit to Doctor Strange which supposedly causes all the multiversal chaos or how long those events will take to play out.
It's also worth noting that time in the MCU can be relative, as Scott Lang in Avengers: Endgame, and now Loki, has explained.
Still, this information does give fans some context about this mysterious film; and it's likely that audiences will get a bit more information about Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness when Strange returns to the big screen in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
All episodes of WandaVision are available to stream on Disney+, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to debut on March 25, 2022.
