Marvel Studios President Confirms 31 MCU Movies, Shows & Specials Are In Development
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is filled with established heroes and villains throughout the Infinity Saga, and the list grew in greater numbers in the post-Avengers: Endgame chapter of the franchise.
Even though Marvel Studios took a break during 2020, the studio managed to bring out the big guns in 2021 by showcasing a plethora of projects on both the big and small screens.
WandaVision opened up the Disney+ era of the MCU, and it was followed by The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki. What If...? also served as a unique entry since it is the studio's first foray into the animated realm.
Meanwhile, on the big screen, Black Widow finally made its debut after multiple delays, which was then followed by the arrival of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
The fun will not stop there as Marvel is set to showcase more projects like Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and the highly-anticipated Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Now, a new comment from a veteran Marvel Studios executive has confirmed that even more projects will soon be on the way.
Marvel Studios Has a Bright Future Ahead
Marvel Studios President of physical and post-production, visual effects, and animation production Victoria Alonso sat down with 221 Radio-103.1 to talk about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
During the interview, which was conducted in Spanish, Alonso confirmed that the studio has "thirty-one projects" that are currently in development:
"We have thirty-one projects underway and the stories we tell have to do with the human factor."
More MCU Heroes and Villains Will Arrive
Many would agree that this latest update from Marvel Studios president Victoria Alonso is a positive development for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The fact that Alonso revealed the exact number of projects that are currently in development for the studio goes to show the extreme confidence of the executive.
It's safe to say that MCU series and films that are already known like Secret Invasion and Moon Knight are included in Alonso's thirty-one-project comment. Meanwhile, other projects that Alonso is referencing could be planned spinoffs, unreleased sequels for films like Eternals and Shang-Chi, the rumored Avengers 5, or more animated shows within the confines of the MCU.
It was already reported that a spinoff centered around Wakanda is in development and a series exploring Hawkeye's Echo is also in the rumor mill of the MCU. Connecting the dots, it seems that characters and concepts that are being introduced in several Disney+ shows and MCU films are being used as a launchpad for more stories that will be expanded into their own respective series.
In a way, this could explain why the project count of Marvel Studios ballooned to thirty one, and this could hint that more expansions will arrive sooner rather than later.
At this stage, there's a strong chance that some of these projects will be officially announced during Disney+ Day on November 12, or even during the next Disney Investor Day event for the House of Mouse.
