Marvel's Eternals: 5 New Images Feature Richard Madden, Gemma Chan & More
One of the more mysterious and ambitious projects Marvel Studios has in the works is Eternals.
Helmed by Academy Award-winning director Chloe Zhao, Eternals looks to introduce not just one new character to the MCU but an ensemble cast of immortals who - despite having lived on Earth for centuries - are forbidden to interfere unless the equally-ancient Deviants are involved.
Even though these cosmic heroes are relatively unknown within the MCU, the same can't be said for their stars who range from Angelina Jolie to Kit Harington to Salma Hayek.
As the film's November release date approaches, Marvel fans are getting new looks at the Eternals' star-studded cast as their respective heroes and even a look at Chloe Zhao's direction.
Eternals Stills Show Gemma Chan and Chloe Zhao
GamesRadar shared five new stills, via Total Film, from Marvel's Eternals featuring Richard Madden, Gemma Chan, Angelina Jolie, and director Chloe Zhao.
The first new image shows Gemma Chan as Sersi in her Eternals costume behind the scenes and being directed on location by Chloe Zhao.
Zhao is well-known for her unique use of light and natural locations as shown in her award-winning film Nomadland; it's expected that her style will be reflected in Eternals, bringing a whole new aesthetic to Marvel Studios.
The next image again shows Gemma Chan as Sersi in costume. Marvel fans know her character has been described as having "an affinity for humanity."
The next still shows Kumail Nanjani as Kingo, Gemma Chan again as Sersi, and Lia McHugh as Sprite in a location familiar to the trailers, and that's speculated to be where Barry Keoghan's Druig is leading a cult-like group.
It's worth noting that the colors of the casual clothes the Eternals are wearing reflect the colors of their respective superhero costumes.
More of the cast is shown in this still, including Richard Madden as Ikaris, Angelina Jolie as Thena, and Don Lee as Gilgamesh.
They appear to be in the same location as the image prior with the members of Druig's potential group seen pictured in the background.
The final trailer for Eternals showed Ikaris' ability to shoot beams from his eyes a la Superman, and this still seems to highlight that particular ability.
Eternals Poised To Make MCU History
While secrecy is synonymous with Marvel Studios, this film is particularly mysterious because it's so different in style and story.
These heroes aren't average humans grappling with newfound abilities or advanced technology; they're superpowered immortals who have a long history on Earth but seemingly no history with the Avengers or climatic events in recent years.
The film's teasers and trailers have been careful telling audiences the bare minimum of what they need to know, and these new stills kept to what has been shown already as no new locations or characters were revealed.
Still, any new imagery from this film is welcome as fans await its theatrical debut, and they only support the fact that the look and feel of Eternals, along with its unique story, is something MCU fans haven't seen in this universe before.
Eternals arrives in theaters on November 5, 2021.
