Oscar Isaac Says Marvel's Moon Knight Is the Best Risk He's Ever Taken
After finding tremendous success with the Infinity Saga from 2008 to 2019, Marvel Studios is now in a position to take nearly any risk it wants in terms of storytelling and characters in Phase 4 and beyond.
At the theatrical end of the spectrum, this comes most prominently with entries like Spider-Man: No Way Home, which will then lead directly into the highly anticipated Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The MCU isn't holding back with its Disney+ slate, however, thanks to the introduction of exciting new characters in shows like Moon Knight.
Marc Spector's debut solo outing will have the opportunity to not only bring a powerful and mythical new hero into the MCU mythology but also tackle some real human struggles as its predecessors WandaVision and Loki did. Take a man who suffers from Dissociative Identity Disorder and throw him headfirst into ancient Egyptian mythology, and the MCU has a recipe for something truly new and unique.
For all the challenges and risks that fans can see on the outside looking in, the show is holding no punches back according to the professionals making it as well.
Oscar Isaac On Moon Knight Risks
In a recent interview for Oscar Isaac's latest movie The Card Counter, the actor spoke with Good Morning Arizona's Tara Hitchcock and touched on his upcoming MCU debut in Moon Knight.
When asked what the "best risk" he'd ever taken was, Isaac simply admitted that it was "what (he's) doing right now" with Marvel Studios.
Confirming that he has about a month left of work on the series, he admitted to being "so nervous" about signing on to the Disney+ but also confirmed that he's thoroughly enjoying his experience thus far:
"I gotta say, what I’m doing right now, I’m doing this show called Moon Knight. We got a month left, and I feel like, so far, that this might be the one where I was like ‘I was so nervous about it,’ but I’ve just been having such a blast."
Marvel Takes The Cake For Isaac
Oscar Isaac has quite a few challenging projects on his growing resume, including critical darlings like Ex Machina and the upcoming Dune alongside his role as Poe Dameron in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. However, coming in as one of the MCU's newest leading men seems to be the top of the mountain at the moment for the Hollywood veteran.
Although it took a great deal of time for him to officially sign on to play Marc Spector, Isaac seems to have embraced the workload and the responsibility of bringing this long-awaited new hero to the streaming world. Being the MCU's first Jewish leading character and one of the first to dive into previously unused mystical elements is surely a big task, but it's one that Isaac is tackling head-on.
With no official footage having been released from Moon Knight yet, the series is shrouded in mystery as fans wait to find out how Isaac and the team will bring the CIA agent-turned-superhero to life. Thankfully, with personnel on hand who are all passionate about the hero, it should be a tremendous moment when the show is released to the public.
Moon Knight is set for release on Disney+ sometime in 2022.
