James Gunn, The Suicide Squad, Guardians of the Galaxy

Director James Gunn has spent the last few years building his resume to unexpected levels, particularly through his work in the comic book movie universe. After delivering an unexpected hit franchise for Marvel Studios with the first two Guardians of the Galaxy movies, with Vol. 3 close to starting filming, Gunn then took his talents to Warner Bros. for 2021’s The Suicide Squad.

Gunn’s work on the soft reboot garnered a great deal of success for Warner Bros as it became one of the highest-rated DC movies ever made, including ranking second in the DC Extended Universe on Rotten Tomatoes. After Gunn finishes Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 for Marvel, it’s becoming clear that he has a bright future developing more superhero projects within the DCEU for Warner Bros. While no specifics are known about his venture, he recently teased that he’s with the studio for the long haul.
