Marvel Reveals 2 Separate Types of Eternals Superheroes In MCU Movie
Eternals looks like it's set to be a groundbreaking film for several reasons. For one, Chloé Zhao's upcoming MCU debut will explore a story spanning all of time itself, putting the film on a scale formerly unknown when it comes to Marvel's world.
On top of that, the film organically includes one of the most diverse groups of superheroes to ever hit the screen. Having so many different types of people is going to give people somebody they can look up to that they never had before.
This group of superheroes is the Eternals, as per the title, and they are god-like beings created by Celestials to watch over mankind. Their powers vary, from manipulating matter to weapon creation, to Superman-like strength and laser beams.
In fact, it seems that fans can expect to see two core types of superheroes within the group.
Two Types of Eternals Superheroes
In a new featurette for Chloé Zhao's Eternals, Gemma Chan, who plays Sersi, teased the two types of Eternals in the film.
First, she mentioned that "Five of the Eternals are more of the thinkers...," which include the likes of Ma Don-seok's Gilgamesh, Kumail Nanjiani's Kingo, Richard Madden's Ikaris, Angelina Jolie's Thena, and Lauren Ridloff's Makkari.
Each of these fighters also has their own unique abilities. Gilgamesh has a special one-punch knockout, Kingo can shoot beams from his arms, Ikaris has super strength, flight, and laser beams, Thena can manifest weapons, and Makkari has super speed.
Chan then said that "the other five are the stronger fighters." Those five include Lia McHugh's Sprite, Barry Keoghan's Druig, Salma Hayek's Ajak, Gemma Chan's Sersi, and then Brian Tyree Henry's Phastos.
The thinkers don't just have their brains. Sprite can cast illusions, Druig can mind-control people, Ajak can heal, Sersi can manipulate matter, and Phastos can assemble anything out of technology around him.
New MCU Powers in Eternals
It's good to see that there is a distinction within the group when it comes to the function of the different members. When there are ten people on a superhero team, it would end up being quite dull if they all had similar powers and goals.
Having half of them being more thinkers and the other half fighters will lend itself a unique dynamic. However, just because some are thinkers and other fighters doesn't mean that they aren't all equally formidable. After all, each Eternals has their own individual powers that they bring to the table. Watching dysfunctional families can be fun, but when you add in superpowers, things get even better.
As for watching all of that play out, fans will have to wait just a few more weeks until the film hits theaters on November 5. The real question is how will fans choose to experience it?
