Spider-Man: No Way Home: Daredevil Star Teases 'Reimagining' of Potential Role
Charlie Cox Responds to Daredevil Rumors
Charlie Cox sat down with Jessica Shaw on SiriusXM to talk about a potential Marvel return as Matt Murdock aka Daredevil.
Cox first discussed how characters are consistently being reimagined in the world of comic books, then suggested that his potential comeback would experience a similar route down the line:
“What happens in the comics is a writer and an artist will team up for a run of a comic. And so they’ll do 10 issues, 20 issues, I don't know what the typical number is. And then there's kind of a reimagining, and sometimes the storyline continues, and sometimes they start again, or go back in time, they do different things and they'll reimagine that character. So, if there was to be an opportunity for me to come back as Daredevil, whatever that would look like, I imagine it would be a reimagining of the character and the show. If they choose me to do it, there's going to be some elements of that are of course the same."
The Netflix star then pointed out that Marvel Studios can also "choose someone else" for the role so that they can "reboot it all over again," similar to what Sony did with Spider-Man:
"Or they might choose someone else and reboot it all over again and just kind of do with Spider-Man all over again, which is recast him and start from the beginning, and it proves that, it still gets the numbers, people still show up to watch it. But I imagine that [Daredevil] would be kind of like, the upgraded version, I don't know, something like that."
The Daredevil star then took note of the fact that the Marvel Netflix series has "three great seasons of television" while sharing caution about living up to expectations upon coming back for another run at the character:
""We must also be grateful, because if nothing ever happens going forward, we've got three great seasons of television and we haven't ruined it. You’ve got to be careful what you wish for. You come back and it’s not as good or it doesn’t quite work or it’s too much time has passed, or whatever it is, if it doesn’t quite come together in the same way. You don’t want to taint what you’ve already got. If we never come back, you’ve got these three great seasons and our third season was our best reviewed. So, the trajectory was up. I, for one, am tremendously proud and grateful for what we have.”
The former Marvel actor has been previously rumored to return as Matt Murdock in the highly-anticipated Spider-Man: No Way Home film in December 2021.
