Avengers: Endgame & 12 More MCU Movies to Release In IMAX on Disney+

Marvel, IMAX

The MCU is such an incredible piece of work in the movie industry; it truly is unlike anything in cinema that's ever come before. People have now grown up with those characters and stories since the MCU's inception in 2008, and evolved alongside them.

Going to the movies to watch a new installment of the Marvel saga is a meaningful and euphoric event for many. Simply seeing that Marvel Studios logo play can be an emotional experience.

One of the better ways to experience the Marvel Cinematic Universe is by watching the stories unfold in IMAX, which allows for more of the action and visuals to fit on the screen. Sadly, there's never been any way to replicate this experience, with that ratio having remained strictly exclusive to theaters.

Disney+ Day is just around the corner, and ahead of the event, the company decided they wanted to share something early that they'll be releasing in celebration of the event...

Marvel Studios' Gets Its IMAX Films Back

Variety is reporting that Disney will officially be releasing thirteen of their MCU films in their original IMAX ratio on Disney+, starting Friday, November 12.

The movies that will be available in the IMAX ratio include:

  • Iron Man
  • Guardians of the Galaxy
  • Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
  • Captain America: Civil War
  • Doctor Strange
  • Thor: Ragnarok
  • Black Panther
  • Avengers: Infinity War
  • Ant-Man & The Wasp
  • Captain Marvel
  • Avengers: Endgame
  • Black Widow
  • Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

This move is unique, as Disney+ will be the first major streaming service to ever offer the IMAX enhanced experience for in-home viewing. The format brings 26% more screen, so that more of the action and visually stunning details of the MCU can be seen on-screen.

IMAX and Disney+ celebrated the announcement with a promotional video, which can be watched below:

Meanwhile, the Russo Brothers took to Twitter in celebration of this new addition for November 12's Disney+ Day, sharing a video of Anthony Russo giving fans the good news. The video can be seen below:

The MCU's Now Bigger Than Ever

It's truly exciting that fans will now be able to watch some of these films in the IMAX experience––minus the larger-than-life IMAX screen, of course.

Other than when the films are in theaters, there has never been a way to see that 26% extra screen real estate on any Marvel movie. In fact. even the simple hope that fans would be able to ever do so has hardly existed. IMAX has simply never seemed interested in playing ball.

Now, that seems to be changing. While Disney has only announced thirteen qualifying MCU projects for this IMAX rerelease, it's only a matter of time until every Marel Studios film will be available to watch in that special format. If IMAX truly is changing their stance on at-home viewing, other studios are likely to follow suit with their own releases. TTis could become a new regular occurrence, which would bea huge winfor movie fans everywhere.

Tune in to Disney+ Day on Friday, November 12, to see what other surprises Marvel Studios has in store for its fans.
