Hailee Steinfeld Reveals How Her Spider-Man Role Differs From Hawkeye
Hawkeye is close on the MCU horizon as the Disney+ series debuts later this month. Marvel's fifth streaming project marks the first solo adventure for Jeremy Renner's Clint Barton, but he won't be the only archer on the screen.
The show is as much a celebration of one of Marvel Studio's original six Avengers as it is an ushering-in of the new MCU era with the introduction of Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop.
Kate Bishop - who has been a Marvel Comics favorite for years - will serve as somewhat of a protégé to the bow-wielding Avenger while the two go off on a holiday adventure for the ages.
Now, this is not the first time Steinfeld has laced up her Marvel boots. Many fans will remember the young actress from when she portrayed Spider-Gwen in 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse.
She joins an exclusive club of people that have played more than one Marvel character in film, but according to Steinfeld herself, she's not letting Gwen affect the way she plays Kate.
Steinfeld Breaks Down Her Two Marvel Heroes
During the press junket for Hawkeye, series star Hailee Steinfeld broke down the difference between her role as Kate Bishop in the Disney+ show and how it differs from Spider-Gwen in Into the Spiderverse.
She said that the two heroines may "have similarities" but are overall "very different:"
“It’s incredibly cool [to have played two Marvel heroes]. And I feel so honored to be a part of both projects. But I think they’re characters that have similarities, but they’re very different. And, of course, one is animation and one is not. And two completely different worlds."
Steinfeld went on to clarify that a lot of her roles "have this sort of consistency" in being "young women who are strong-minded:"
"I always love that I do find the characters that I have played in the past do have this sort of consistency in being these young women who are strong-minded, have a point of view, have an idea of who they are in this world, and they really stop at nothing to get what they want to achieve what they want to achieve. And I think that both Gwen Stacy and Kate Bishop prove that if you set your mind to something, you can really achieve great things.”
Kate Bishop Will Stop at Nothing
Hailee Steinfeld has made it clear that although her roles as Gwen Stacy and Kate Bishop do have some pretty major differences, she's able to see the core similarities between the two. It is easy to see that she really cares about these roles and is excited about both.
Steinfeld knew what she was getting into when she took on the role of Spider-Gwen in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and she is showing the world now that she knew exactly the same thing when taking on Kate Bishop in Hawkeye. This is not the first time someone has taken on more than one hero on the silver screen, and Hailee seems to be more than equipped to take on such a challenge.
It is already evident that Ms. Bishop is a badass - something that fans know Steinfeld can play particularly well. So far in the young actress' career, she has befriended giant robots in Transformers, traversed the Spider-Verse, and now she is going to team up with a veteran Avenger. What can't this woman do?
Kate Bishop can be seen in action when the first two episodes of Hawkeye start streaming on Disney+ on November 24.
