Loki's Jonathan Majors Teases Kang's 'Significant' MCU Future

Jonathan Major's Kang the Conqueror made waves when he debuted in Loki's season finale on Disney+. The multiversal villain appeared as a Variant known as He Who Remains and was directly responsible for Sylvie shattering the Sacred Timeline.

Now the consequences of what transpired with Majors' jovial antagonist have not fully come to fruition, but one can bet dollars-to-donuts that shock waves from those final moments of Loki Season 1 will be felt for years to come.

This is just the beginning for Kang. He has already been confirmed to appear opposite Paul Rudd in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, and is seemingly being set up as the next big bad for the MCU.

But what was it about this blue-faced comic villain that drew Majors in? Well, the Loki actor has finally opened up about just that.

Jonathan Majors Gets Deep About Kang

In a recent interview with Collider, Jonathan Majors revealed it was Kang's the Conqueror's impending "significance (...) in the MCU" that ultimately drew him to the part:

"And when I looked at the significance of Kang in the MCU, I agreed to the role the same way I agreed to any other film that I do."

He said that, with every part he takes on, he asks if the character is unimportant enough for "the world (to) move forward without them:"

"Can the world move forward without them? Can the scene move forward without them?...If it can then I’m okay, and if it can’t then it’s something I want to take on."

He also mentioned that he still doesn't know a ton about the future for Kang, but likes where Marvel is starting:

“Well, I [know] what everyone else [knows]. And still do, actually. You know where it’s like this is the role, and this is where we’re starting. That’s as far as we got, and that was enough for me. To try and understand who this character was."

Kang is Here to Stay

It's exciting to see Jonathan Majors say something like this about his new MCU role. Sure, it had been speculated that Kang was going to be a big part of the next swath of Marvel Studios content, but this basically confirms it.

Majors may not yet know the specifics of how his character will affect this Marvel tapestry; however, his emphasis on Kang's "[significance] in the MCU" means he knows a little more than he is leading on. It may not be a TVA file folder's worth, but Feige and the Marvel brass have surely let him in on at least the broad strokes of what they have planned for him.

A big takeaway from these quotes is when Majors was mentioning the process he goes through of picking a role. Him asking his list of questions and only putting pen to paper on a project if he can justify it must mean that he is taking this Marvel thing pretty seriously.

Majors is a legit actor and would not have taken the role if he did not think he could do something special with it, leaving his indelible mark on the canon of the MCU.

Audiences can next check in on Jonathan Majors' Kang when Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania hits theaters on July 28, 2023.
