Shang-Chi Star Celebrates Eternals Release With Marvel Actors
Marvel Studios is officially back in theaters this fall thanks to the worldwide debut for Chloé Zhao's Eternals, a movie that it hopes will help expand the MCU from multiple angles. With the Oscar-winning director's one-of-a-kind vision leading the way, this new team of heroes is already making its presence felt amongst its more than two dozen MCU movie counterparts.
In a shocking turn of events, Eternals found a place near the lower end of MCU projects critically on sites like Rotten Tomatoes and CinemaScore, although the movie has certainly faced its share of unfair review-bombing during that process. However, Marvel fans are still coming out in droves to see what Marvel's classic group of immortals is all about, pushing its opening weekend box office gross to the fourth-highest of the year.
Thanks to this financial success, coupled with positive reviews coming from fans, Marvel Studios has plenty of reason to celebrate its latest venture. Some of this even came from not only cast members in Eternals itself, including Sersi star Gemma Chan and Kingo star Kumail Nanjiani, but one of the newest MCU superstars as well.
Shang-Chi Gives Sersi & Kingo Props
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu shared the latest TV promo for Marvel Studios' Eternals on Twitter, which celebrated the movie's ranking at the top of the weekend's worldwide box office.
Liu expressed a feeling of pride for his fellow MCU co-stars, specifically Gemma Chan and Kumail Nanjiani, as he congratulated the Eternals team on the movie's debut:
Proud of these guys. Congrats to Gemma Chan, Kumail Nanjiani and the incredibly talented cast and crew of Eternals!!
Chan responded to his post with a simple yellow heart emoji, while Nanjiani thanked Liu and asked when Shang-Chi and Kingo would team up in the future:
"Thanks bud. Kingo, Shang Chi team up?"
Marvel Family Showing Love for Eternals
Simu Liu is coming off his own recent run of success after starring in Marvel Studios' last film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which came to theaters in early September. That film had the second-best opening weekend of the year and the biggest Labor Day weekend debut of all time, pushing the Master of Martial Arts into the upper echelon of all MCU solo outings.
Liu is already making a name for himself as one of the MCU's most passionate actors, never one to hold back his enthusiasm for his new role and the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole. With his own standing set for the long run after a thrilling post-credits tease alongside Captain Marvel and Bruce Banner, the Asian star is now focused on sharing his excitement for his new co-workers in their own endeavors.
While Chan's response was more subdued, Nanjiani used his own brand of entertainment by teasing a potential in-universe meet-up between his Kingo and Liu's Shang-Chi. This sort of interaction may not be in the cards until a fifth Avengers movie comes to be, although Nanjiani and Liu seem to be leading the push for that exciting combination within the MCU.
Eternals is now playing in theaters worldwide. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will be available to stream on Disney+ on November 12, 2021.
