Shang-Chi Star Pokes Fun at Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man: No Way Home Leaks
Marvel fans all over the world are in for a thrilling ending to 2021, which is currently moving forward with the long-awaited release of Eternals. It's the third of four movies to debut in theaters this year, following Black Widow and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and preceding the mega-event that is Spider-Man: No Way Home in December.
The film industry has arguably never seen a movie event like Tom Holland's Spider-Man threequel, which will feature two of the most captivating stories in any MCU movie ever released. Peter Parker will have to deal with a world that knows his secret identity for the first time before he becomes the first MCU character to deal with the ramifications of the Multiverse falling into chaos.
That massive event after Doctor Strange's spell-gone-wrong is already confirmed to bring in powerful villains from past Spider-Man movies like Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin and Alfred Molina's Doctor Octopus; most recently, Jaime Foxx's Electro was officially confirmed to join as well. Possibly even more exciting is the possible arrival of both previous live-action Spider-Men alongside Tom Holland, played once again by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.
Garfield in particular has had to deal with questions about his potential MCU debut for the better part of a year, and he's always dodged a confirmation regardless of how many pieces of evidence point to his inclusion being true.
Most recently, leaked images teased all three live-action Spider-Men in one shot, including Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker. Following Sony Pictures themselves becoming involved with the leaks, another comment on the matter has come from one of Marvel's newest stars.
Shang-Chi Pokes Fun at No Way Home
MCU star Simu Liu took to Twitter to share a funny remark about Andrew Garfield's leaked appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Liu shared an image of his Shang-Chi and Awkwafina's Katy from the post-battle scene in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings before the film's arrival on Disney+ on November 12. He encouraged fans to "cuddle up" with their own version of Katy and shared his excitement for the movie's streaming debut:
"Cuddle up with your maybe-platonic-but-maybe-not-friend this Friday as Shang Chi releases on Disney+. Watch this amazing action-packed movie while thinking about how great your relationship is already, and how you don't want to ruin it by expressing your true feelings wait wha-"
Liu followed up with a second Tweet that included a picture of him and Awkwafina from the movie's final scene, again promoting Shang-Chi's Disney+ debut. He also offered his own joke about Spider-Man: No Way Home by teasing that fans will not see Andrew Garfield in the image, even after a close look:
"Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings on Disney+ Friday! Check out this exclusive screenshot.
If you look reaallllly closely you can clearly see that Andrew Garfield is definitely not in it."
Simu Liu - Shang-Chi Star & Diehard MCU Fan
Simu Liu is not only the driving force behind Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings on and off-screen; he's proven to be as big of an MCU fan as anybody since he was cast in the role more than two years ago. He's watched Phase 4 closely, as proven by his reaction to the Season 1 finale of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and he's paid tribute to the late Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman on numerous occasions for the actor's influence on him.
Now, as Liu waits for his next turn to play the Master of Martial Arts, he's fully jumped onboard the hype train for arguably the biggest solo superhero movie of all-time.
Andrew Garfield's return as Spider-Man has been one of the hottest topics of discussion in the MCU fandom throughout 2021, particularly with no concrete news confirming he and Tobey Maguire for roles in No Way Home. Photos of him on set have been widely debated over whether they were photoshopped, and Garfield has been walking on eggshells about offering any specifics regarding the movie.
With just over five weeks remaining until the movie debuts, discussions over rumors like those surrounding Garfield will continue to ravage the MCU fandom online. It's becoming clear that this won't slow down for one moment, especially with major players like Liu posting material such as this, and it will only keep the Spider-Man threequel at the forefront of Marvel's most intriguing projects.
Spider-Man: No Way Home will swing into theaters on December 17, 2021.
