Spider-Man Fans Discover Edited Tobey Maguire & Andrew Garfield Scene In No Way Home Trailer

Spider-Man: No Way Home's second trailer has arrived.

The new footage of Tom Holland's third solo outing showcased the best looks yet at Green Goblin, Sandman, Electro, and the Lizard, while also revealing big details about the antagonists' motivations. With a rogues' gallery totaling at least five, Holland's Peter Parker appears hopelessly outmatched in his next showdown.

That is unless he has help.

Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's potential involvement in Spider-Man: No Way Home has been Hollywood's worst kept secret. For over a year, the first two generations of Spider-Man have been rumored to be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe's latest web-slinging flick. Both actors have shot down the speculation, but that hasn't kept fans from insisting both Maguire and Garfield will show face come December.

While neither actor was revealed in the latest trailer, theories have already rumbled that some magic Marvel editing may be at play.

Tobey and Andrew Potentially Edited Out of No Way Home Trailer Shot

Don't trust anyone is the motto for next summer's Secret Invasion, but it might as well be the response to anything put out by Marvel Studios' marketing team.

The latest trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home culminates with Holland's web-slinger leaping towards a trio of foes as the title card plays.

While this may look like Holland's Peter Parker is biting off more than he can chew, speculation has run wild that this frame is the latest in a long line of Marvel trailer trickery.

Rhys Ifans' Lizard makes a suspiciously sudden turn to something behind him, despite there being nothing there. Fans have already filled in the imaginary gaps, suspecting that either Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man have been edited out of this particular trailer shot.

Marvel's History of Trailer Trickery

Marvel Studios goes to great lengths to protect their films’ most coveted secrets, including intentionally editing significant aspects of particular scenes for upcoming films.

Thor: Ragnarok’s marketing revolved around a money shot of Chris Hemsworth’s God of Thunder charging up with lightning as his eyes turned white. When November 2017 rolled around, that exact shot only contained one eye infused with voltage, as the other had been scratched out.

The same goes for Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, which both had official trailers concluding with shots that concealed characters and objects from what would be shown on screen.

While many "Tobey and Andrew confirmed!" theories have been grasping at straws, this has legitimate precedence. Marvel Studios' trailer trickery has been a constant in MCU marketing, and with a film as big as Spider-Man: No Way Home, it's probable that Kevin Feige and company will be up to their old schemes once again.

The Spider-Men Unite?

The trailer pits Tom Holland doing battle by his lonesome against all three but considering none are antagonists from his world, it's safe to assume back-up is not far behind. If Tobey and Andrew are in this scene, No Way Home is setting the stage for an all-time showdown.

This scene would pit three generations of Spider-Men against three of their greatest foes. Tobey Maguire did battle with Sandman throughout Spider-Man 3, while Andrew Garfield fought off the Lizard and Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, respectively.

Fans will find out if this scene brings the highly-anticipated trio together when Spider-Man: No Way Home hits theaters on December 17.
