Spider-Man: No Way Home: Actor Confirms One Peter Parker Missing From MCU Sequel

The most talked-about Marvel Studios film of the year is the one that also happens to be 2021's last: Spider-Man: No Way Home.

It's no exaggeration to say that this is going to be the biggest Spider-Man movie to date. The first trailer completely blew through previous viewership records set by Avengers: Endgame, which is no simple feat. Endgame was the conclusion of the MCU's entire storyline, and it still managed to take the loss.

Given No Way Home is now confirmed to have five different villains from the previous installments in the franchise, it's no wonder the project has the attention it does. To add on top of that, there are all those relentless rumors about previous Wall-Crawlers Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield joining the fray.

This would mean No Way Home could have three different multiversal Spider-Men fighting together—that's insane, to say the least. But it begs the question: who else might join?

Well now, fans can cross at least one of those Peter Parker's from the list.

There's At Least One Spider-Man Not Making the Cut

In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Nicholas Hammond, who played Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the 1970s The Amazing Spider-Man series, commented on all the fuss surrounding Spider-cameos in the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The actor revealed that he "think[s] it would have been huge fun," to have made an appearance in the Multiverse-centric Spider-Man: No Way Home, but that "unfortunately" he was never approached by Sony or Marvel Studios about such a return:

“I think it would have been huge fun. It would have been a kick in the pants to have the old guy there... I was really hoping I would be approached but unfortunately, that didn’t happen.”

Hammond went on to praise Holland's version of the character, and said that the MCU's version of Peter Parker "is the closest to what [they] were doing" in the 1970s show:

“Tom Holland’s version is the closest to what we were doing; trying to make him very much a real guy, someone who you could actually forget he had these powers and get caught up in Peter’s story... that was what we were going for.”

No Hammond Spider-Man... For Now

It's no surprise to hear that Hammond wasn't approached for Spider-Man: No Way Home. The 1970s The Amazing Spider-Man series isn't exactly known for its popularity.

However, that doesn't mean it wouldn't have been fun—a small cameo would be the perfect way to give the former Spider-Man actor a moment in the MCU. Something fans should keep in mind is that the Multiverse isn't just going to vanish after this third Spidey film.

The door will always be open for a cameo from Hammond, or any of the other more obscure portrayals of favorite superheroes. Until then, audiences will just have to hope that those Maguire and Garfield rumors are true.

Spider-Man: No Way Home hits theaters worldwide on December 17.
