Spider-Man: No Way Home Trailer Copies Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy Death
Fans just got the second trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home, and to say it was insane would be putting it lightly. The world finally got its first proper looks at the return of Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin, Jamie Foxx's Electro, Sandman, and Lizard.
Spider-Man has had many films over the last decade or two. From Tobey Maguire's run on the character to Andrew Garfield's Amazing Spider-Man to Tom Holland's current MCU all-star—the web-slinger's legacy is long.
Each franchise has had its defining moment. One of the most emotional ones goes to Andrew Garfield's The Amazing Spider-Man 2, where Spider-Man failed to save Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy. The tragic moment was perfectly shot and gave fans several iconic images to
At one point in the new No Way Home trailer, however, there's a moment when Zendaya's MJ is falling to her potential death, and it brought fans back to that very fateful moment with Andrew Garfield.
Gwen and MJ Fall to Their Death
The brand-new trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home is here, and with it, a lot of new footage for fans to comb-over.
There's one particular moment however, that has garnered the attention of fans. At one point in the trailer, Zendaya's MJ can be seen falling from a building as Peter jumps to try and save her.
Not only does that situation bring back memories of Emma Stone's death as Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but it is also shot in a nearly identical manner.
While this has obviously caused lots of concerns over the fate of MJ in the film, it's important to note that these are not the only two occasions in which Sony has played off of this very moment.
Spider-Man (2004) did it first with Kirsten Dunst's Mary Jane, and then, more recently, Venom: Let There Be Carnage pulled a similar moment—both of the victims falling to their possible death were saved. So which way will Zendaya turn out?
Will Zendaya Go the Way of Emma Stone?
With how intense this movie has been teased to be, it's easy to think that Zendaya's time in the MCU may be coming to a close about as quickly as she is to the streets below her. Hopefully, however, the character will not be meeting her end, and these shots are just a ruse by Sony.
After all, as mentioned above, there have been two other times where the same imagery has been used where people survived their falls. The odds are good that the love of Peter Parker's life will end up in the same camp.
With the rumored inclusion of Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire as their respective Spider-Men, this situation poses a really great possibility. What if Garfield's Spider-Man is the one who swings in and saves Zendaya's MJ—doing what he could not for Gwen Stacy.
It would be a huge moment not only for Tom Holland, but also a defining character beat for Garfield's haunted Peter Parker.
Fans only have a month to go until they can find out how Sony will handle the moment when Spider-Man: No Way Home releases in theaters worldwide on December 17.
