Spider-Man: No Way Home's Doc Ock Battle Just Changed Colors In New Teaser

Spider-Man: No Way Home Doc Ock

Set to release on December 17, 2021, Spider-Man: No Way Home is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated films of all time due to its multiversal storyline, the presence of Spidey villains from franchises past, and rumors suggesting former web-slingers would be appearing alongside the MCU's Tom Holland.

Following the threequel's first trailer, which dropped in August, fans have anxiously been awaiting the arrival of No Way Home's official poster and hoped for more upon its release from the typically silent marketing team. While the poster did drop online, highlighting Holland's Spidey, Doc Ock's mechanical tentacles, and even the Green Goblin atop his glider; in terms of footage, fans got nothing.

However, that all changed mere hours later thanks to a new international TV spot for the upcoming film; but what fans saw in the circulated promo piece was slightly different than what they saw in August.

Spider-Man: No Way Home Scene Updated For New Teaser

A new Chinese Spider-Man: No Way Home TV spot not only showed new footage of the anticipated film but also updated the color balance of the Doc Ock fight from the end of the original trailer.

Here's a look at the shot from the trailer where one of Doc Ock's signature mechanical arms from 2004's Spider-Man 2 first appears in the frame.

The new promotional spot gave this shot with a lighter and less saturated color balance and with a clearer view of the crushed pavement in the foreground.

The following shot from the original trailer was the audience's first clear look at Alfred Molina's Doc Ock saying, "Hello, Peter."

In this particular comparison of the new promo to the August-released trailer, the color adjustment is much more noticeable as the blue-tinted background has been replaced with a color scheme that better complements Ock's skin tone and appears slightly less saturated.

However, it's worth noting that the glowing sparks and outline of buildings in the background of the first shot are much less visible under these adjustments.

Considering Spider-Man: No Way Home was greenlit for a release in China shortly after its first poster dropped online, this trailer spot for Chinese audiences likely reflects Marvel and Sony's most recent updates to the film's footage, which, at first glance, appears to be an improvement.

For the most part, the images appear clearer and more realistic and better match more of the action from the trailer itself.

Adjustments like these shouldn't worry fans as many filmmakers and artists tinker with their films right up to their release. Although, it's worth noting that some fans pointed out the differences in Ock's background to that of Peter's in the trailer, giving rise to the belief that certain shots and elements may not be part of the film at all or have been manipulated to convey a different set of circumstances.

Of course, the MCU has a reputation for dropping scenes and exchanges in film trailers and teasers that don't even exist in the story in order to keep fans guessing. Considering No Way Home's near-daily leaks and rumors, it's possible that fans have seen quite a bit of fake footage in the movie's somewhat limited marketing campaign thus far.

While it's expected that this Doc Ock moment from both the trailer and TV spot is part of No Way Home, the fact that it has been adjusted could be good news for fans awaiting that second trailer; and when it finally arrives, it will be interesting to see if the studio has adjusted any other scenes from the original trailer in that teaser as well.

Spider-Man: No Way Home swings into theaters on December 17, 2021.
