Marvel Reveals Best Look Yet at Doctor Strange 2's Gargantos Villain
Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is the next Marvel Studios film to which fans worldwide are turning their attention. After the introduction to the Multiverse in Spider-Man: No Way Home, audiences are begging to see more - bringing together Andrew Garfield, Tobey Maguire, and Tom Holland's Spider-Men will do that.
The first teaser for the movie played after the credits of Spidey's latest adventure, and it showed off some of the crazy happenings that Strange, Wong, and Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch will have to deal with. Another new hero, Xochitl Gomez's America Chavez, got her first screen time as well.
In one of her scenes, Doctor Strange and Chavez face off against one of the film's big villains: Gargantos. Nothing is known about the giant creature besides its looks, leading to questions about its role in the film. Is this one of the big bads or simply a temporary threat?
Either way, fans can now get a better look at whatever the being is, thanks to some new promotional material.
New Look at Gargantos
New Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness promotional material surfaced on Walmart's website, which gives a better look at Gargantos after its appearance in the recently released first trailer.
The new image, which comes on purchasable wall art, sees the tentacled villain amongst the stars, surrounded by a mysterious purple haze. Does that haze serve any purpose or is it simply set dressing?
The Strange Villain on the Wall
One of the first observations fans made about Gargantos is how he seemed eerily similar to a more famous character: Shuma-Gorath. Unfortunately, that tentacle creature, who is extremely powerful, appears to be unavailable for Marvel Studios to use in film. So there's a chance this eyeball will serve the same purpose in Multiverse of Madness.
Then again, it's always possible that this bunch of tentacles isn't meant to be anything more than a temporary set-piece and that Strange and co. have far more to worry about.
For one, there's the dark Doctor Strange, who the trailer paints as one of the key antagonists. However, Wanda also has the Darkhold, which can't be good for her—dark influences can even be seen in her costume after her first interactions with the text.
Sadly, with all of these questions, there just aren't enough answers; not yet, at least. Fans will need to wait until the film releases on May 6 later this year to know it all.
