She-Hulk Actor Spoils Big Change for Abomination In Disney+ Show

Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky, Abomination

She-Hulk is one of the new heroes that will be introduced in the MCU in its massive Phase 4 slate. The Marvel hero will be portrayed by Orphan Black's Tatiana Maslany, and it will also feature the return of Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner. She-Hulk follows the story of Jennifer Walters as she transitions into a superhero while also juggling her daily life as a lawyer.

Ruffalo and Maslany will be joined by a stellar cast that includes Jameela Jamil as Titania, Renee Elise Goldsberry, Ginger Gonzaga, and Tim Roth's Abomination. Aside from its basic premise, the exact plot details of She-Hulk are still being kept under wraps.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige described She-Hulk as a “half-hour legal comedy,” a genre that the studio has “never done... before.” This tease led fans to speculate how characters like Abomination would fit in the show's grand scheme of things.

Now, Roth addressed Abomination's role in She-Hulk to shed some light on the subject.

Tim Roth, who plays the MCU's Abomination, sat down with The DisInsider to talk about his upcoming return in She-Hulk

Roth spoiled in the interview that he would be changed back to Emil Blonsky, the human form of the Abomination, in the series, openly answering with an "Oh yeah!" without hesitation.

The Marvel actor also mentioned that his return in She-Hulk would be "weird" while praising lead star Tatiana Maslany by describing her as "a powerhouse."

Roth then teased that fans should expect to "see a bit of everything in [it]."

Abomination vs She-Hulk?

It remains to be seen how Abomination will transform back into Emil Blonsky, but Tim Roth's latest comments strongly hint that She-Hulk will explore the character's story after the events of 2008's The Incredible Hulk

Roth has been absent throughout the Infinity Saga after his stint in the 2008 MCU flick, but he has since made his return during Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

In the Simu Liu-led film, Abomination was featured in a cage match with Wong, where he ultimately lost to the Sorcerer Supreme. Abomination's brief cameo in Shang-Chi confirmed that he knows Wong, and he appears to be confined in a prison cell.

It's safe to assume that She-Hulk will address the character's current status in the MCU, especially after his less-monstrous personality in Shang-Chi.

Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner is seen in his human form in Shang-Chi as well, meaning that he was able to find a way to shift back to his normal self instead of being Smart Hulk. It's possible that this "cure" could be the same one that will be used for Blonsky, but it remains to be seen if Banner will give this willingly to his former enemy or if it will be stolen.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier showed that villains can still work with heroes, as evidenced by Zemo's team-up with Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes. There's a chance that this story beat will be repeated in She-Hulk, potentially showcasing a collaboration between Banner, Walters, and Blonsky

It's possible that the mission is deep undercover, thus explaining why Blonsky reverts back to his human form. This could directly tie to Roth's comment of his return being "weird" since no one would expect that Blonsky would team up with Banner and Walters.

All in all, many would agree that Abomination's return in She-Hulk presents endless possibilities.

She-Hulk is expected to stream on Disney+ sometime in 2022.
