Star Wars Might've Already Spoiled Baby Yoda's Jedi Decision
Episode 6 of The Book of Boba Fett is now officially on Disney+. With the season finale just a short time away, everything is starting to come together for the penultimate event, which will likely be centered around Temuera Morrison's Boba Fett and Ming-Na Wen's Fennec Shand. The Star Wars show's fifth episode saw the return of Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin, and the gaps between Season 2 of The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett were filled in.
Warning - This article contains spoilers for Episode 6 of The Book of Boba Fett.
In Episode 5, when the Armorer smelts Din's Beskar spear down into a liquid, he asks that she craft armor for Grogu. Fans weren't given a look at what the Armorer made for him, but in Episode 6, Din traveled to where Luke Skywalker was constructing his Jedi Temple so he could give Grogu the gift.
When Din arrived, he was met by R2-D2, who led him through a forest where he was instructed to wait for who he thought would be Luke. However, Rosario Dawson's Ahsoka Tano was the Jedi who ended up greeting him, where she told the Mandalorian that Grogu's attachment to him was too strong; this meant that if they saw each other, it would jeopardize his training.
Toward the end of the episode, Luke offers Grogu a choice. He could either choose the gift that Din had made for him and return to the bounty hunter, or he could choose Yoda's lightsaber and become the first student at Luke's future academy. The scene cut before fans could see the choice that Grogu made, but a previous comic that is Star Wars canon may have already told viewers what Grogu's answer will be.
Ben Solo was Luke's First Student
In 2019, a 4-issue comic series was released with the title Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren. Written by Charles Soule, this story followed Ben Solo prior to his introduction in The Force Awakens and explored how he was tempted to join the Dark Side of the Force, as well as how he became the leader of the Knights of Ren under Snoke's command.
In issue #3 of the 4-part series, Ben is talking to Ren, the Knights' leader, about his time at Luke's academy and the relationships that he had with other Force-sensitive children. This takes place after Ben destroyed Luke's temple and killed most of the students.
He is telling Ren about the story of him killing three fellow students - Hennix, Voe, and Tai. The comic panel reads "We all studied together. I was first, but they came not long after. Voe, Hennix, and Tai:"
It was previously known that Ben was a part of the first generation of Jedi to be trained by Luke, but this comic confirms that he was the very first student with the others following behind him. Due to Luke's sister, Leia, being Ben's mother, and Luke's best friend, Han Solo, being the father, it would make sense that Ben was the first student.
Since this comic is canon in Star Wars, the latest episode of The Book of Boba Fett would cause a contradiction if Grogu were to choose the lightsaber and take up Luke's offer of being his first student. However, it may just be a clue as to which path he will choose.
Grogu's Choice
Grogu certainly has a difficult choice ahead of him. Along with that choice, Episode 6 confirmed that he had prior training, as a flashback sequence to Order 66 showed him as a youngling at the Jedi Temple.
He showed a strong reaction to both the lightsaber that was previously owned by Master Yoda, as well as the Beskar armor that Din had made for him. It was clear that Grogu wanted to go down both paths, but Luke gave him an ultimatum of only being able to choose one. Viewers will have to wait to see what choice he actually made, but if this Kylo Ren comic is any indication, Grogu will elect to return to the Mandalorian.
This would certainly ease a lot of minds, as many fans have worried that Grogu was at Luke's temple when Ben burned it to the ground and killed the remaining Jedi. If he chooses the armor, he will be in the safe hands of Din and won't be anywhere near the temple when Ben turns to the Dark Side.
Grogu's Future with the Mandalorian
Grogu returning to Din would also make the story of the Mandalorian come full circle. Din wasn't born on the planet Mandalore, but he was rescued by Mandalorians as a young boy and taken in as a foundling. He has mentioned many times that Grogu is, in fact, also a foundling, and if he were to return to Din, he would be trained to the best of his abilities to be a Mandalorian warrior.
This would also set up a narrative that could be further explored in future seasons of The Mandalorian as Din returns to Mandalore and begins his reign as its ruler.
Grogu's return to Din has also been teased in the past two episodes of The Book of Boba Fett. In Episode 5, Amy Sedaris' Peli Motto asked Din where Grogu was, and then in Episode 6, Timothy Olyphant's Cobb Vanth asked him the same question.
This makes fans anticipate their reunion even more than before, and when taking into consideration that Din told Grogu they would see each other again as they parted ways, it seems like they will be together again sooner rather than later.
Some theories have suggested that Grogu chose the Beskar armor, and Luke will make another appearance in The Book of Boba Fett's season finale to drop him off to Din before sticking around to aid Boba Fett in the war against the Pykes. Fans would undoubtedly jump out of their seats with excitement if he was seen in action again, and it would give Boba and his team a major advantage that they wouldn't have without Luke.
Episode 6 of The Book of Boba Fett is now streaming on Disney+.
