Star Wars Rumor Teases Jedi Fallen Order 2 Announcement in May

Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order 2

2019 saw the release of one of the most popular Star Wars games to date - Jedi: Fallen Order. Set after the events of Revenge of the SithFallen Order featured Cameron Monaghan's Cal Kestis as a brand-new Jedi, and the story followed him as he searched for a Holocron that contained the names of every Force-sensitive child in the galaxy. Due to the game's success, a sequel was never in doubt.

Gamers know that a sequel is in active development, thanks to an EA announcement in early 2022. The publisher not only confirmed Fallen Order 2 but also an untitled strategy game and a first-person shooter.

Jedi: Fallen Order is published by Electronic Arts. The company, which is also known for its work on the Battlefield franchise and sports games such as Madden NFL, usually holds an annual event known as EA Play, revealing trailers and gameplay from upcoming titles and even making announcements about games that will be coming in the future.

However, the event has been canceled for 2022, leaving many fans to wonder when the Jedi: Fallen Order sequel will be announced. Past rumors suggested that May would be the most likely window for an announcement, and recent rumblings have supported that claim.

Gaming insider Jeff Grubb recently reported on his GamesBeat Decides podcast that the Jedi: Fallen Order sequel will be officially announced "in May at Star Wars Celebration:"

"We’re gonna hear about that in May at Star Wars Celebration, is when that’s coming. So keep an eye out for that because that’s where it’s happening.”

He recently reported that the announcement would come sometime before E3, which will take place in June. Due to the fact that Star Wars Celebration lasts from May 26-29, it seems as though the speculation lines up.

When Will Fallen Order 2 Release?

Jedi: Fallen Order was released in November 2019, over two years ago. If Jeff Grubb's reports stand true, a release date, or at least some kind of window, will probably be tacked alongside it at Star Wars Celebration.

It is possible that if it does get announced at the convention, a brief teaser trailer will also accompany it. The most likely window for the sequel's release would be near the end of 2022 at the earliest, and it wouldn't be a surprise if it was as late as 2023, putting more than three years between the two titles.

However, it is important to remember that the entertainment industry has had to navigate through uncharted territories with COVID-19, and that has definitely added some extra time to the game's development.

As far as the story of the sequel goes, everything has been kept under wraps. The first game ended with Cal destroying the Holocron and giving up the chance to rebuild the Jedi Order.

The slate is clean for whatever direction Respawn Entertainment wants to go in, but it is safe to say that whatever happens, Darth Vader and his Inquisitors will have the young Jedi front-and-center on their radars.
