Samuel L. Jackson's Secret Invasion: Marvel Producer Teases Paranoia of Disney+ Show

Nick Fury, Skrull morphing

Marvel's Secret Invasion was one of the largest comic book events of the last 20 years. Skrulls infested Earth, posing as Avengers in order to tear the super team apart from the inside. Heroes like Captain Mar-Vell and Hank Pym as Ant-Man were revealed to be Skrulls, and the event nearly leads to Earth Mightiest Heroes' defeat.

At Disney's 2020 Investor Day, Marvel Sudios announced that a Secret Invasion series was coming to Disney+. The show will star Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Ben Mendelson as Talos. Up until now, little has been known about how much this series will take from the popular comic book arc.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has given the first mention of what to expect.

NEWS

During a recent press event for WandaVisionFeige told ComicBook.com that Secret Invasion will feature fewer characters than in the comic books. Here's his full statement:

"Well, there were more characters in the Secret Invasion comic series than there were in Endgame so, no, it's not that but it very much is a showcase for Sam Jackson and Ben Mendelson and tapping into the paranoia elements of the Secret Invasion comic series that was great with the twists and turns that that took. So, that's certainly our focus more than, 'Can we cram in more characters than Endgame? like publishing?"

WHAT THIS MEANS

It would be silly to think that this Disney+ series would be a shot for shot remake of the comics, it is just unrealistic. However, Skrulls are a big part of the MCU now, knowing they've been on Earth since 1995. Also, know that Skrulls Talos and Soren were impersonating Nick Fury and Maria Hill in Spider-Man: Far From Home, the final movie in Phase 3 of the MCU.

So this news shouldn't come as a shock, but the bigger question is what this could lead to in the future.

While Secret Invasion "very much is a showcase for Sam Jackson and Ben Mendelson," all of the issues that could unravel from this story may need to be fixed in a later project. MCU fans are still awaiting news for an Avengers 5 team-up film and this could play into that eventual story. Another Marvel story bathed with secrecy is Secret Wars which could be the eventual Avengers film, especially knowing how much Marvel likes using "War" in their movie titles. Secret Wars involved universes colliding, and with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness coming soon this could become a real possibility.

The MCU has always picked and chosen what story elements they use from the comics, and we should expect more of the same as fans are set to journey through Phase 4.
