Spider-Man 3: Zendaya Teases CGI Action Scenes In Tom Holland Movie
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is finally kicking it into high gear again with its first new release in 18 months, and it's only the start of the absolute Marvel madness that's on the way in 2021. The new year will bring fans six MCU Disney+ shows and four grand-scale theatrical releases from Marvel Studios, and nothing is building up the same hype as December's Spider-Man 3.
This movie may not have a title yet, but it already boasts one of the most star-studded casts in Phase 4 thanks to a certain multiverse expansion. Villains from both of the previous live-action Spider-Man franchises will team-up against the MCU's web-slinger in some capacity, but Tom Holland's wallcrawler will have some backup of his own consisting of Doctor Strange and potentially both Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire's takes on Peter Parker.
On top of the insane action set to arrive in this movie, Spidey still has the aftermath of his identify crisis from Spider-Man: Far From Home to deal with. But after a chat with one of his co-stars, this problem will not be a Peter Parker exclusive.
ZENDAYA RUNNING FROM OTHER-WORDLY TROUBLE?
In a recent interview involving Spider-Man actress Zendaya courtesy of Variety, the young star revealed that she and her cast mates still have "a lot left to do" on Marvel and Sony's untitled Spider-Man 3. She also compared filming the CGI-heavy actions scenes to "running from aliens and things you can't see."
"It’s our third. These things go by so fast. We still have a lot left to do. It’s like running from aliens and things you can’t see. Part of that is kind of fun. A lot of what we do is escapism, just being able to play a teenager again."
ZENDAYA JOINS THE ACTION (AGAIN)
The last that MCU fans saw of Zendaya's Michelle Jones was at the very end of Spider-Man: Far From Home as she recovered from a wild web-swinging tour of New York City with Spider-Man, right before Peter Parker's identity was revealed to the world by an iconic role reprisal of JK Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson.
It makes sense that MJ will be running from unknown troubles in both her and Peter's paths, considering she already had experience doing just that in Far From Home, although the "aliens" comment she made in the interview is intriguing. The MCU is obviously quite familiar with extra-terrestrial beings, although the only alien hints seen in this specific franchise was the use of Chitauri weaponry in 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming.
The multiverse is nearly confirmed to play some role in the threequel with Doctor Strange's involvement, which opens up a door (or sling ring portal) to a new or classic race of aliens playing a role in this plot. On the other hand, "alien" could simply mean not from her Earth, and could be referring to the multiversal villains that will be coming into play to wreak havoc on the Big Apple. What an exciting mystery to add to all the Spidey 3 speculation.
No matter what answers come to these questions, it will likely be some time before anything concrete is revealed. Filming is still in its early stages before the movie arrives in full at the end of the year, but with everything revealed thus far, all eyes will be on the lookout for news on this massive team-up sequel.
The untitled Spider-Man 3 will debut in theaters on December 17, 2021.
