WandaVision Creator Says Spider-Man 3 & Doctor Strange 2 Connections Required Two-Way Communication
The ambitious Phase 4 slate of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is off to a terrific start courtesy of WandaVision. The first project of the monumental franchise under the Disney+ banner has been the major subject of discussion among fans on social media, with everyone trying to find out what's really happening in the mysterious town called Westview.
From the get-go, it was evident that the multiverse is the main focus of WandaVision, and this was further proven by the show's sitcom-style fantasy world alongside the presence of various strange neighbors. “Episode 3" took it up a notch by actually showing that Westview is inside some kind of alternate reality bubble, and this conundrum will be further explored in the coming weeks to provide everyone with answers.
The multiverse storyline of WandaVision is only the beginning since it was confirmed that the show will tie directly to other MCU properties that will also focus on parallel Earths, like Doctor Strange 2 and the currently untitled Spider-Man 3.
Now, the creator of the hit Disney+ series explained how the concept was discussed behind-the-scenes.
WANDAVISION SHOW RUNNER HAS INSIDE SCOOP
While speaking with Entertainment Tonight, WandaVision show runner Jac Schaeffer revealed that she was “lucky enough” to be in communication with Spider-Man 3 director Jon Watts and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness director Sam Raimi during the writing process for the show, considering the strong connection of the series to the aforementioned titles.
Schaeffer also admitted that she knows “a little bit” of what will happen among the three projects, and she made sure that the events in WandaVision will properly lead to the storyline of the two MCU sequels.
When asked whether the series' connections to the two upcoming MCU movies required Schaeffer to work together with Watts & Raimi or simply involved Schaeffer passing her script to the two filmmakers, Schaeffer shared that it's a two-way street:
"It's a little bit of both. I'm lucky enough to be in communication with some of those folks and to know a little bit of what's going on. It's not my job to oversee how all of those things interconnect, but I'm told and led in on the things that I need to know to make sure it all adds up."
THE MCU'S MULTIVERSE WILL FURTHER EXPAND IN PHASE 4
As it is, it's fascinating to hear whenever filmmakers collaborate and piece together ideas on how to create a solid storyline that will span across several properties. More so, it is also not surprising that Schaeffer knows some key plot points of Spider-Man 3 and Multiverse of Madness due to the interconnected nature of the MCU, but the more intriguing part of the reveal is the mystery of how it all ties together.
The connection between WandaVision and Multiverse of Madness is a given due to Wanda's involvement, but the inclusion of Spider-Man 3 is surprising. This essentially adds another layer of intrigue which was further fueled by the numerous rumors in the past months about a stockpile of legacy Spider-Man characters coming back for the threequel.
Part of the fun of the MCU's approach in storytelling is the unexpected cameos of certain characters. WandaVision has been confirmed to showcase at least one surprise guest star during the latter half of the series, and it's possible that it could end up being Doctor Strange or, even shockingly, Spider-Man.
Given the strong collaboration between the directors of the three projects, the likelihood of seeing Wanda, Doctor Strange, and Peter Parker in one scene has dialed up even further. The only question that remains is where exactly viewers will see the inevitable team-up, and it will be interesting to find out how it unravels onscreen.
