WandaVision Easter Egg: New Episode References Vision's Avengers Debut From Comics
Warning — This article contains spoilers for WandaVision.
The first two episodes of WandaVision are officially live to stream on Disney+, and the Marvel fandom is already eating up every second of it.
The sitcom world is fully brought into reality with the show's first two entries on Disney's streaming service, and the team behind the show is already successfully giving the Marvel Cinematic Universe something it's never seen before. Diving fully into the feel of the 1950s and 60s, using classic TV shows like I Love Lucy and Bewitched as inspiration, this fresh story gives Marvel fans new and old something to enjoy through the first hour of footage from Phase 4.
As has been the case since the MCU's inception, Marvel Studios is meticulous and highly clever with including Easter Eggs and teases for fans of all levels, giving great layers of depth to the storytelling. This happens once again in WandaVision, which includes quite this intriguing Easter Egg in "Episode 2."
NEWS
Near the beginning of "Episode 2" of WandaVision, Wanda Maximoff finds a toy helicopter in the bushes, after hearing the strange noise she heard in the show's first clip released. The toy appears in vibrant color, despite the rest of the scene being in black & white. This helicopter is not only adorned with the SWORD logo, it is also in red and yellow colors with the number 57 on it.
This is a clear reference to Marvel Comics' Avengers 1, Volume 57 released in 1968, which is the first comic appearance for Vision.
WHAT THIS MEANS
Marvel Studios has the art of placing Easter Eggs down to a science, and it's undeniable that this continues to be the case in Phase 4.
Vision's first appearance in the comics came alongside classic Avengers characters like Hank Pym as Goliath, Black Panther, Hawkeye and more as they fought the classic Marvel villain Ultron. Hank Pym's creation sent in the Vision to kill the Avengers, but he turns against his creator and ends up defeating him, similarly to how Vision joins the Avengers to stop Ultron in Marvel Studios' Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Considering that this is the first headlining appearance in the MCU for both Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff and Paul Bettany's Vision, this is a fantastic nod to Vision's earliest days in Marvel Comics over 50 years ago. Fans will certainly be on the lookout for more Easter Eggs like this one over the next seven weeks, especially knowing how good the MCU is at providing them.
