WandaVision Easter Egg: New Episode References MCU's Skrulls
Warning - This episode contains spoilers for Episode 4 of WandaVision.
Marvel Studios' WandaVision just debuted its first episode set in the real world after the show premiered two weeks ago, and the mysteries continue to arrive in rapid-fire fashion.
Episode 4 of the MCU's first Disney+ show opens with an update on everything that's happened since the end of the Infinity Saga as half the universe was brought back to life. Once again, Marvel Studios is proving how deeply connected this series is with its predecessors as Teyonah Parris' Monica Rambeau returns to a world in chaos before restarting her work as a S.W.O.R.D. captain.
When Monica is sucked into Wanda Maximoff's alternate sitcom reality, FBI Agent Jimmy Woo and astrophysicist Dr. Darcy Lewis team up with S.W.O.R.D. to figure out what in the world is going on and how to fix the town of Westview. As the team works through their theories on paper, a small nod to the MCU's recent history pops up in their notes.
SKRULLS MAKE THEIR PHASE 4 DEBUT
In Episode 4 of Marvel Studios' WandaVision, Randall Park's Jimmy Woo begins working to figure out what's going on inside Wanda Maximoff's alternate reality, as well as identifying the real people stuck in Westview. Looking at the whiteboard on which Woo is writing, the word "Skrulls" can be seen in the bottom left corner in parentheses next to what appears to be "extra-terrestrials," which is all underneath the phrase: "What is behind this?"
THE SKRULLS CONTINUE IN THE MCU
The Skrulls were first brought to life from the pages of Marvel Comics in 2019's Captain Marvel as a major part of the MCU's Kree/Skrull war. The race of shape-shifters played a key role in that movie alongside Carol Danvers before returning for a small cameo role at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, when they revealed themselves to have posed as Nick Fury and Maria Hill.
Ben Mendhelson's Talos is already confirmed to return in Phase 4 for the Secret Invasion series on Disney+, and there's a chance that his people could appear again in next year's Captain Marvel 2 considering their history with Carol Danvers. It seems unlikely that the Skrulls will fully appear in WandaVision, but considering everything that's happened to this point, nothing can be taken off the table.
It's clear that the Skrulls are here to stay in Phase 4 and are still seen as a threat to Earth, so the only mystery that remains is details on when and where they will show up. This episode of WandaVision firmly indicates that Earth is well aware of their existence, and they will make their mark on the MCU's future in due time.
Episode 4 of WandaVision is now available to stream on Disney+.
