WandaVision's Paul Bettany Hints at Surprise Character In Marvel Show
After a long wait, WandaVision is only several days away from its much-anticipated debut on Disney+. The inaugural MCU show is set to reunite Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany as Wanda Maximoff and Vision respectively, but their reunion this time around will be far different from the usual high-stakes battle against a powerful enemy.
Instead, the MCU couple will see themselves living a normal married life in the suburbs, inspired by several sitcoms from different decades of television. Based on the show's marketing so far, Wanda seems at peace with this unusual set-up, but some scenes indicate that Vision will end up realizing that everything is not what it seems.
Aside from Olsen and Bettany, WandaVision has a stacked cast filled with new and returning characters like Kathyrn Hahn's mysterious Agnes, Randall Park's Jimmy Woo, Kat Dennings' Darcy Lewis, and Teyonah Parris' Monica Rambeau. Despite that, it looks like an unannounced actor will also join the exciting small screen adventure of the MCU's power couple.
NEWS
In an interview with Black Girl Nerds, Vision actor Paul Bettany revealed that he was able to work with an actor that he's been eyeing to work with for quite some time now in WandaVision. The MCU veteran also teased that they “have some real fireworks together," presumably sometime after the first three episodes of the series:
“ The stuff that I can't [tell] you about where I get to work with an actor is gonna be a surprise for everybody. I get to work with an actor that I've been wanting to work with forever. It's just unbelievable, and we have some real fireworks together.”
WHAT THIS MEANS
Bettany's comments will no doubt inspire discussion amongst fans, leading to speculation about the matter. It is worth mentioning that WandaVision is still part of the larger MCU, and it's a given that some characters from elsewhere in the MCU could appear (unexpectedly) in the show.
Based on previous rumors, there's a good chance that the actor that Bettany is pertaining to is none other than Evan Peters. It was previously reported that the X-Men actor will make an appearance as a “key character” in WandaVision, but details about his role are still being kept under wraps.
Given the strong multiverse connections of WandaVision, it's possible that Peters will end up playing Fox's version of Quicksilver in the upcoming MCU series. This makes narrative sense since there's a chance that Wanda is trying to create a perfect life for her and Vision. By adding another Pietro Maximoff from another world, it essentially achieves the kind of (alternate) life that Wanda ultimately wants.
On the flip side, Bettany could be alluding to another sitcom icon. WandaVision trailers already showcased the likes of Fred Melamed (The Manhattan Project) and Debra Jo Rupp (That 70's Show) making an appearance as the couple's curious neighbors in the series' first set of episodes. By connecting the dots, it is likely that another fan-favorite sitcom actor will make a surprise cameo in the latter half of the show.
Whatever the case, WandaVision is shaping up to be a must-see for fans, and the addition of surprise characters will no doubt elevate the anticipation surrounding the show's debut.
