WandaVision Easter Egg: New Episode Includes Tony Stark Reference

This article contains spoilers for WandaVision.

The show-within-a-show approach of WandaVision is taking the internet by storm week after week, leaving everyone to speculate on what's really going on in the town of Westview. After spending enough time in the sitcom fantasy world of Wanda during the first few weeks, the inaugural MCU project finally delivered concrete answers in the last two episodes by introducing the sentient organization known as S.W.O.R.D

Created by Captain Marvel's Maria Rambeau, the agency has been revealed to have already existed for years before the events of WandaVision. The whereabouts of S.W.O.R.D. during major events of the MCU hasn't been addressed yet, but it's reasonable to assume that this plot point will be addressed soon.

Still, a good amount of tidbits about the MCU's S.W.O.R.D. were provided by WandaVision, and one of the takeaways is the organization's name change. As pointed out by Teyonah Parris' Monica Rambeau, the agency transitioned into the 'Sentient Weapon Observation Response Division' during the five-year gap between Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame

Plot details about the name change are still being kept under wraps, but a new clue from the latest episode of WandaVision may offer clues about the matter.

ANOTHER TONY STARK REFERENCE

“Episode 5” of WandaVision included another Easter egg that has ties to Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man.

After Wanda violently returned the drone that S.W.O.R.D. sent into Westview, a blink-and-you'll-miss-it reference to Tony Stark was shown.

In the image below, the drone can be seen with a Stark Industries label attached to it.

DID TONY STARK GIVE S.W.O.R.D. ADDITIONAL WEAPONS?

The history of MCU's S.W.O.R.D. hasn't been thoroughly explored yet, but this latest evidence suggests that Tony Stark helped the organization in some form after the events of Infinity War. Given SHIELD's absence and Nick Fury's off-planet travels, it makes narrative sense for Stark to aid the only agency that is tasked to keep the world in check.

The exact role of Stark Industries in S.W.O.R.D.'s resurgence is unclear, but it's safe to say that Stark is aware that this newfound organization is using his technology. Even if Stark didn't proactively approve this, it's possible that Pepper Potts went ahead and donated it anyway, considering the state of the world after The Blip.

By connecting the dots, there's a strong chance that this donation was even green-lit by the government due to the Sokovia Accords. “Episode 5” confirmed that this registration act is still in effect, and Stark's signature in the legal document could've essentially paved the way for S.W.O.R.D. to use several of the technology from Stark Industries.

Meanwhile, given the complex nature of the Westview anomaly, this begs the question if Wanda actually placed the Stark Industries label on the drone herself. By now, it is evident that the fabricated reality that Wanda created is mainly due to her grief and trauma, and the drone's unexpected makeover could be tied to the aforementioned bubble. In a way, this could be true, especially considering the fact that Stark is one of the main reasons for her Wanda's early-life misery.

So far, part of the fun of WandaVision is making everyone speculate on what's happening in Wanda's sitcom world, and this latest Easter egg will no doubt add to the lingering mysteries that have yet to be unraveled.
