Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam Movie Receives Production Update
The DCEU is in the process of diving deep into production on multiple new entries to the franchise, which will hopefully both expand on the story and earn the universe more favor amongst fans. Warner Bros. has mostly finished production on James Gunn's The Suicide Squad before it releases in August, and there are a handful of future entries coming in the next couple of years as well.
Confirmed to be in production over the next year are entries like Ezra Miller's The Flash, Zachary Levi's Shazam!: Fury of the Gods, and Jason Momoa's Aquaman 2. This all comes alongside three unique series releasing on HBO Max and the highly anticipated release of Zack Snyder's Justice League on March 18, 2021.
Even with so much on the way, there is one outlier whose production schedule has been up in the air for some time: the Dwayne Johnson-led Black Adam. Thankfully, that status is about to change with a new quote from one of the film's main producers...
DWAYNE JOHNSON GIVES AN UPDATE ON BLACK ADAM
In an interview with Brandon Davis of ComicBook, producer Hiram Garcia revealed that the DCEU's Black Adam is set to begin production in April 2021. He expressed how excited he is that "everything is ramp(ing) up" as Dwayne Johnson and the rest of the cast and crew prepare for filming in Georgia:
"We're getting started soon, you know actually, we begin filming in April, we'll be in Georgia, home away from home. We're really excited man, we have everything is ramped up, we're so fired up for this."
Garcia also confirmed that the movie was "supposed to have been filming last year" before getting postponed due to the pandemic, "like it delayed everyone:"
"Obviously, you know how passionate we are about this project.. This is very special to us, and you know, not only Black Adam, but JSA, and all these characters we're introducing to the world and, what we want to do with it, we're just... Look, we were supposed to have been filming last year. COVID, like it delayed everyone, it kinda got in the way, but we're happy we're able to pause, regroup, and now we're going to be getting going, and by April we'll be shooting and on track to bring this thing home."
BLACK ADAM STARTS SHOOTING NEXT MONTH
Although Black Adam still doesn't have a release date, it's exciting to know that the movie is set to kick off production in just a few short weeks.
The origin story for the DC villain has been one of the most intriguing projects set to release within the DCEU, especially considering how much uncertainty has surrounded its place in the release lineup. As only the second movie in the franchise centered around a DC anti-hero or villain, fans are already theorizing about how Shazam's most notable adversary will hold down his own solo story.
The movie is also set to introduce the Justice Society of America with Aldis Hodge playing Hawkman, Noah Centineo appearing as Atom Smasher, and Quintessa Swindell portraying Cyclone joining Dwayne Johnson. These heroes will certainly have their work cut out for them either fighting against or teaming up with Black Adam, and it will be exciting to find out more plot details as they are revealed.
Black Adam will begin production in April 2021. The film currently doesn't have a set release date.
