WandaVision Director Teases Doctor Strange 2 Includes Lots More of Scarlet Witch's Story

Doctor Strange, Wanda Maximoff

Marvel Studios is inching closer to the end of its first effort on Disney+ with the finale of WandaVision set to arrive at the end of the week. After eight thrilling episodes that have come in the past couple of months, the hype is building to see how the story will end for the Scarlet Witch and Vision as they face off against Agatha Harkness, SWORD, and even a new Vision.

One of the most exciting aspects of the MCU's new venture into streaming storytelling is the fact that many of the starring heroes in these shows will seamlessly transition into the franchise's big-screen epics. This is already set to be the case with Teyonah Parris' Monica Rambeau from this series before she teams up with Brie Larson and Iman Vellani for 2022's Captain Marvel 2, which is just the start.

Another example of this happening lies with WandaVision's leading lady, whose journey was recently teased by this series' director.

WANDA'S JOURNEY FAR FROM OVER

In a new interview with TV Line, WandaVision director Matt Shakman confirmed that the team's primary focus for the Disney+ show was "trying to tell a complete story in terms of the narrative around Westview, N.J." While aiming to gain "some resolution" to that story, Shakman reveals "that there’s a lot more to (Wanda's) story to be told" as she continues in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.:

"We were trying to tell a complete story in terms of the narrative around Westview, N.J., and we hope that there’s some resolution to that story, and that it is satisfying and also surprising for the fans. But Wanda will continue into Doctor Strange [in the Multiverse of Madness], and there’s a lot more to her story to be told, so this is only one part of a very complicated and very rich life.”

Additionally, Shakman again tackled the topic of Wanda "suffer(ing) more loss than anybody in the MCU" and how that plays into "the emotional core of WandaVision.":

"Wanda has suffered more loss than anybody in the MCU. She’s gone through so much and that was always the emotional core of WandaVision, exploring loss and how we come back from [it]."

WANDA'S TEAM-UP WITH STRANGE WILL BE SOMETHING SPECIAL

WandaVision is certainly giving fans an exciting story featuring Elizabeth Olsen in her first true headlining role in the MCU. Potentially even more thrilling is the fact that she is confirmed to co-star in 2022's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness alongside Benedict Cumberbatch as the Sorcerer Supreme.

No plot specifics have been confirmed for Cumberbatch's solo sequel yet, but its story is being set up in its earliest stages by what's happening in WandaVision right now. Wanda's evolution into her full Scarlet Witch persona is nearly complete, and even though it's still unknown what her series' finale will bring, she will be dealing with some major issues no matter how the final results turn out.

Taking into account how deeply connected WandaVision already is with the MCU's past and future, fans are fantasizing about how the series will tie into the magical 2022 movie. Marvel CCO Kevin Feige has spoken for the last two years on how the movies and Disney+ shows would converge into a fully fleshed-out story through Phase 4 and beyond, and the earliest signs of that are already noticeable through the course of this series.

WandaVision will continue with its final episode on Friday, March 5, 2021. Elizabeth Olsen is currently filming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which will release theatrically on March 25, 2022.
