Falcon and Winter Soldier Actress Shocked By Marvel NDA's: 'They Can Take My House'

One of the most well-known things about Marvel Studios is the great lengths the team goes to in order to keep a tight lid on spoilers. The secrecy for which Marvel has become notorious has played a role in numerous marketing campaigns for its projects, but some fans aren't aware of the full extent of what people who work on them have to go through in order to maintain it.

From script deliveries involving security to actors not being able to show their faces while on set, there are numerous protocols that the studio ensures are followed. Though even with Marvel's reputation for keeping things top secret, newcomers to the franchise are sometimes a little overwhelmed by it all.

A BIG SHOCK

In an interview with TooFab, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier actor Amy Aquino shared that she "had no idea how secretive [the experience] was going to be!" while preparing for her role as Dr. Raynor. Aquino admitted how surprised she was by that strict terms in her Marvel non-disclosure agreement (NDA) that "she had to sign:"

"Oh my god! I had no idea how secretive it was going to be. I mean, the things I had to sign and it's like, 'Woah, woah, yeah, no, they can take my house, s-----.'

Aquino went on to detail just how this secrecy made it difficult to read her script for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier:

And what was most problematic -- because I'm not super young, I'm over 60 -- is I couldn't print out my words. I couldn't print them out, I couldn't download them, nothing. They had to be able to watch me [over computer]. I got there the day before I shot, down to Atlanta, and I was on the lot to get my costume fitting and I walked over to the production office ... and said, 'Hey, I'm working tomorrow, can I get my sides?' [The reaction was] 'Umm, I need to make a phone call, there's lunch over there.' Like, literally, after half an hour, I still hadn't gotten an answer. It's like, okay, I'll just go back to the hotel and get on WiFi and just get back on it. It was crazy."

Aquino was also asked about her character's connection to Wyatt Russell's John Walker, the newly-appointed Captain America, and if it would be further explored down the line. She answered "I sure hope so, and I mean that."

GETTING USED TO THINGS

Marvel's secrecy is old hat to those who have been involved with the franchise for a while now, but for those who aren't as familiar with the way the studio operates, it can be very shocking to be thrust into.

As Aquino explained, it was also an adjustment in the sense that she was unable to study her lines the way she was used to, having to be supervised while doing so in order to ensure the content didn't get leaked.

It is unknown if Aquino will appear as Dr. Raynor again in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but given the reveal of her connection with John Walker as colleagues in the military, it's possible this will be further explored at some point.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's first two episodes are now available to stream on Disney+.
