Justice League: New Gods Movie Writer Plays Coy on Connections To Snyder Cut

Darkseid Justice League

The Snyder Cut has officially been released, and the internet is ablaze with opinions on the four-hour HBO Max exclusive. Zack Snyder's Justice League in many ways feels like a setup for more Justice League films that will probably never come out. In light of that, director Zack Snyder shared what theoretical sequels would've delved into.

One major element to the second or third Justice League films would've included the New Gods. Specifically, Snyder said that "the third movie is a New Gods invasion movie really, in a lot of ways."

This quote raised a lot of curiosity about the Ava DuVernay The New Gods film that has been reportedly in the works since 2018. DuVernay confirmed that she is still working on the project in December 2020:

After Snyder's comments, fans are wondering if The New Gods connect to the Snyder Cut. The answer has just been teased.

NEW GOD'S CONNECTION

In a recent tweet reply, The New Gods writer Tom King sent a winking gif in response to a fan's question of "if Ava's New Gods might pick up some of where ZSJL left off."

The interaction began with a fan responding to a tweet from producer Mike Avila:

Then, Avila got Tom King involved, responding, "I'm sure @TomKingTK would be happy to fill in those details for us. Right, Tom??"

King then responded to Avila with a gif of Joey from Friends winking.

A SNYDER CUT CONTINUATION?

Even though this may not be how Snyder originally envisioned the story of the New Gods to play out, DuVernay's upcoming project could continue along with his story. Of course, members of the New Gods such as Darkseid, Desaad, and Steppenwolf were introduced in Zack Snyder's Justice League. Whether The New Gods film will use Snyder's rendition of the characters is still unclear, but King certainly didn't deny it with his gif response.

After an overall positive reception to Zack Snyder's Justice Leaguemany fans would certainly rejoice in seeing these versions of Darkseid and Desaad return to The New Gods. Despite this lack of clarity, back in July 2020, Darkseid actor Ray Porter gave his blessing to DuVernay in a tweet (that has since been deleted) saying she can "cast whoever she wants” as Darkseid. DuVernay responded, "A gentleman and true artist. Thank you, sir."

Any official news on this project has been bleak, but hopefully, fans will be given real updates on casting and a production timetable.

For now, viewers can watch Porter portray Darkseid in Zack Snyder's Justice League, now streaming on HBO Max.
