Life is Strange, developed by Dontnod Entertainment and published by Square Enix, released in 2015 to positive reviews. Players enjoyed the branching narratives of the choice-based game, and the time-rewinding power was praised as a unique storytelling mechanic.

The series continued with the spin-off The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit before a full-fledged sequel, Life Is Strange 2, released in 2018. The sequel followed a new story with different characters, this time focusing on brothers on the run from the police.

It looks like a new entry in the series is on the way, and the trend of featuring a new protagonist seems to be intact.

THE NEXT INSTALLMENT IN THE LIFE IS STRANGE FRANCHISE

In a Twitter post, Square Enix announced Square Enix Presents, a digital showcase for several of its major video game series. Square Enix Presents will stream on March 18 at 10 a.m. PDT and will prominently feature the premiere of the next entry in the Life Is Strange series.

Notably, a report from GameSpot alongside the announcement noted that "The next Life Is Strange game that will premiere at Square Enix Presents will have a brand-new protagonist with a new power."

A NEW PROTAGONIST AND A NEW POWER IN THE UPCOMING SEQUEL

Like Life Is Strange 2, the third installment in the series is set to feature a wholly new character. As GameSpot notes, this new character will have a unique ability. Life Is Strange is known for its characters having interesting powers, so this game is looking to continue that trend with an entirely new ability.

It should be interesting to see how this new ability factors into the gameplay. The time-rewinding ability in Life Is Strange allowed players to explore their possible choices before making a final decision that would affect the story. Whatever this new ability ends up being, it will surely affect each player’s experience with the game in unique ways.

The sequel, like the two games before it, will likely tackle certain issues in today’s society. The first game discussed mental health and life as an LGBTQ+ teenager, while Life Is Strange 2 focused on race in America. With these focuses in mind, the third game will undoubtedly follow a narrative that comments on a certain topic in the United States.
