WandaVision: Paul Bettany Addresses White Vision as Surprise Cameo Appearance

Paul Bettany White Vision WandaVision

In January, Paul Bettany teased an actor for WandaVision, one that he said he has “been wanting to work with forever” and has “real fireworks together.” Theories began to run wild with whom this actor could be, but when fans saw the post-credit scene for the last episode, they realized which actor he was talking about—himself.

Director Matt Shakman was asked about Paul Bettany's tease backfiring, jokingly saying that “He dug himself this hole. He can get out of it.”

Well, Bettany finally answered for his actor tease with fans, thinking that, at the time, it was going to be funny until he underestimated how seriously fans took it.

PAUL BETTANY WAS TALKING ABOUT HIMSELF

In an interview with Good Morning America, Paul Bettany was asked about his past comments regarding a surprise cameo in WandaVision.

Bettany was specifically asked if he had indeed been talking about himself when referring to an actor he's always wanted to star alongside, with him worrying that fans were "gonna be so disappointed when they find out it's me [him]:"

“Yeah, you know when you think something's gonna be funny, and you say it, and then you actually panic about it which is what I did because fans started guessing who it might be, and they were guessing people like Benedict Cumberbatch or Patrick Stewart, and I was thinking, 'God, that's a good idea' and they're gonna be so disappointed when they find out it's me.”

When pressed further on whether Bettany was “trolling” them now and if there's a “big appearance by someone,” Bettany played it safe and avoided answering the question by joking. “Well, you know, I'd love to answer that question, but my service keeps...” before cutting himself off and pretending his feed had frozen.

VISION TELLS A JOKE

It's hard to be mad at Paul Bettany for his attempt at a joke since humorously building himself up as White Vision was genuinely funny. But, fans took his comments too seriously and built up big expectations that likely could never be met. It was fun to see everyone have egg on their face when that post-credit scene rolled around, and the realization hit.

Regardless, it will still be amusing to see Bettany act against himself when Vision and White Vision inevitably face off against one another in the finale. It'll be interesting how Bettany will stretch his acting even more when playing this hollow shell of an Avenger.
