Doctor Strange 2: Kevin Feige Shares Production Update For Benedict Cumberbatch Sequel
Following the fairly average success of 2016's Doctor Strange, his upcoming multiverse-hopping sequel is one of the most anticipated of the MCU Phase Four slate. The film has been described by Kevin Feige as the MCU's first scary flick, making legendary horror director Sam Raimi the perfect fit for the project.
Alongside Benedict Cumberbatch in the titular role, Elizabeth Olsen will return as the Scarlet Witch, following her magical transformation in WandaVision's climactic finale. Additionally, the sequel will connect directly to Tom Holland's Spider-Man: No Way Home that will feature villains from across the multiverse.
Filming has been underway on the blockbuster in London since before Christmas but after a long wait and a COVID-19-caused holt, the production will finally wrap very soon.
DOCTOR STRANGE 2 WRAPS FILMING THIS WEEK
During an interview with The Undefeated, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has revealed Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is currently in its “final week” of filming in London. The legendary producer went on to praise the film's co-lead Elizabeth Olsen for having “worked non-stop” from WandaVision filming to the magical sequel:
“I'm here in London on the set of Doctor Strange 2 for our final week, and Lizzie is here having worked non-stop from wrapping WandaVision to stepping right into Doctor Strange 2”
WHEN WILL THE FIRST LOOK ARRIVE?
With Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness preparing to complete filming in the coming days, fans will be wondering when they can expect their first look at the film. Given no official looks have yet been revealed from Shang-Chi, Eternals, or Spider-Man: No Way Home, it's safe to say it will be a long time before anything is revealed from the March release.
The multiverse-bending sequel will have direct connections to both WandaVision and Spider-Man: No Way Home, making it possible nothing will be shown before the wall-crawling film hits theaters in December. Given Shang-Chi is only five months away with nothing shown yet, it's clear Marvel Studios is very willing to begin marketing their films later than ever.
Benedict Cumberbatch's scary MCU adventure is potentially the biggest of the currently announced Marvel slate, seemingly taking the place of a larger Avengers team-up in Phase Four. Doctor Strange and the Scarlet Witch will come together in the film to save the multiverse alongside America Chavez, setting the stage from a grand-scaled film.
There are plenty of other theories surrounding other cameos that could feature in the multiverse adventure which, if true, could make the film one of the biggest solo films to come out of the franchise.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will arrive in theaters on March 25, 2022.
