Falcon and Winter Soldier: Wyatt Russell Addresses That US Agent Reveal Scene

US Agent Falcon and Winter Soldier

Warning - This article contains spoilers for Episode 6 of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier has concluded and the series gave fans not one but two new Captain Americas. Of course, Wyatt Russell's John Walker was stripped of his title after he killed a Flag Smasher in broad daylight with his shield, but he did hold the title for at least a few weeks.

Sam Wilson has now officially taken over the mantle, just as Steve hoped he would at the end of Avengers: Endgame. Reports are now circling that a fourth Captain America film is in the works at Marvel Studios with Anthony Mackie starring in the titular role

This may have seemed like the natural progression to audiences who watched the six-episode series, but what about John Walker? The character was given a slightly redemptive arc in the finale but was subsequently given the title of U.S. Agent by a character who becomes Madame Hydra in the comics.

On top of the new role, Walker received a new sleek costume that left the actor wanting more.

WYATT RUSSELL UNIMPRESSED WITH NEW SUIT

During a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Wyatt Russell compared the teasing nature of the U.S. Agent reveal scene to that of a "carrot dangling in front of you. It was so much fun."

Russell admitted that he was less than excited about his new U.S. Agent suit, attributing this to the fact that both costumes were essentially the same:

When I went to see the costume, I thought there'd be a lot to deal with. It was…it's really the exact same costume but it's just black and red.”

He added that his lackluster reaction worked well with his character during the scene where John Walker tells Val (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), "It's the same, but black."

“It provided a fun thing for me and Julia beyond what was on the page in that scene.”

Russell also hinted at the future of the U.S. Agent in the MCU:

“At the end of the series, he's grown into himself in a very dangerous way.”

THE MORALITY OF THE US AGENT

Here's a list of events that audiences know of that John Walker has done in his career: Earned three Medals of Honor (the first to do so in U.S. history), was given the shield and took the mantle as Captain America, killed a Flag Smasher whose leader killed his wingman, and ultimately helped save U.S. Senators from probable death.

The Flag Smashers for all intents and purposes were terrorists who preached unity and peace. In Afghanistan, Walker led RS One missions in counter-terrorism and hostage rescue and was awarded for his dirty work, despite Walker saying they were the worst days of his life. So when he kills another terrorist and is then stripped of his position discharged from the military, it is not crazy to think Walker would be frustrated with the lack of understanding.

He even argues that "you built me” to U.S. Congress, speaking more holistically to the U.S. Government and military.

In the end, Walker had a mini-redemptive arc in the finale, but is shown to be still moving forward with working for the mysterious Val character as U.S. Agent. The future of Russell as US Agent appears to be less than heroic and may even pit him against Sam Wilson in Captain America 4.

This "very dangerous" John Walker will surely return sometime soon in the MCU. Whether than be with the Thunderbolts, Dark Avengers, or just as an antagonist to Cap, his layered story will continue to be further fleshed out. This is a character who likes to be a part of a team and fight for what he believes to be the greater good. It is clear that Walker is not all good or all bad, a classic anti-hero that is set to stir up trouble in the future of the MCU.

All six episodes of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier are now streaming exclusively on Disney+.
