While still some time away from going into production, HBO Max and Warner Bros. are starting to make some serious headway bringing the Green Lantern Corps series further into development.

Just a few weeks ago, news broke that American Horror Story's Finn Wittrock will be taking on the leading role of Guy Gardner, one of the numerous Lanterns playing a part in this story. This came after another report revealing that the show is holding a casting call for the classic Lantern villain Sinestro, although there is no name attached to the role yet.

The Direct even had the opportunity to reveal the exclusive news that the show would take place over multiple time periods, showcasing the DC team in a way that's never been done before in live-action. Tying back to that report is a new one revealing information on a cast member that may be helping bring this fact into reality.

The Illuminerdi revealed that actor Jeremy Irvine is in final negotiations to take on the role of Alan Scott in the HBO Max Green Lantern Corps series. The deal to play the original Green Lantern is reportedly a one-year deal.

In the comics, Alan Scott is Earth's first Green Lantern and is a gay man.

The story was corroborated by The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline.

THE LANTERN LORE EXPANDS

While it isn't a done deal yet, Irvine's addition to this show would add an exciting level of star power for the Lanterns' first real run in the DCEU.

The actor's debut came in the 2011 British film War Horse before appearing in high-profile films like 2015's The Woman in Black: Angel of Death and 2018's Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. This DCEU outing comes as his first time tackling a superhero role, and he should be well-equipped to bring a level of depth and excitement to the character.

This will be Alan Scott's first time coming to a live-action project, making a name for himself as one of DC Comics' prominent gay heroes. This will almost certainly play into his story. Plot details are largely being kept under wraps for the time being, although the announcement for Irvine should indicate the cast being closer to coming together.

There is currently no set release timeframe for the Green Lantern Corps series on HBO Max.
