Marvel Boss Reveals Doctor Strange 2 Rewrites Caused By WandaVision Changes

WandaVision, Doctor Strange

Marvel Studios is entering a whole new phase of storytelling outside its Phase 4 slate, which kicked off with the MCU's return in early 2021. Due to both Phase 4 releases exclusively coming in the world of streaming on Disney+, it's still somewhat of a mystery as to how the overarching plot will connect between the TV shows and the movies.

Rumors are already floating as to how this would have been different if the global pandemic hadn't changed things around, even though the franchise is doing a remarkable job of adjusting on the fly and keeping the story coherent.

The biggest example of this is with July's Black Widow, which would have introduced Julia Louis-Dreyfus' Val into the MCU for the first time. Due to release changes, she became the major cameo appearance in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, setting the character up for some potential mayhem in later movies and Disney+ series.

Recent news in this same light brought the reveal that Benedict Cumberbatch was originally meant to have a cameo in WandaVision. His absence not only meant changes in that show but in his upcoming solo movie as well...

REWRITES FOR MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige recently spoke with Rolling Stone Magazine, via Movie Web, on scrapped plans for Benedict Cumberbatch to appear in WandaVision.

Feige also took the time to describe Marvel's process for Cumberbatch's sequel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Magic, as a "wonderful combination of very dedicated coordination, and chaos. Chaos magic."

MCU FANS IN FOR A DOCTOR STRANGE TREAT

Even though Feige seemed to make the right move in making sure that WandaVision's main focus was on its lead characters, its connection to the Doctor Strange sequel was inevitable due to Elizabeth Olsen appearing in both. However, his specific mention of Chaos Magic is something that can't be taken as a coincidence.

The last episode of WandaVision showed Wanda's full transformation into the Scarlet Witch, with the previous episode having Agatha Harkness specifically mention her ability to use Chaos Magic. With an ability this powerful, the Sorcerer Supreme is sure to add the Maximoff twin's name to his watch list of potential threats.

Impressively, no plot leaks have come from the set of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which will feature two of the most powerful Avengers in the MCU. Fans are looking forward to finding out what exactly brings Strange and Maximoff together as well as how the story changed and the doctor will help Wanda harness Chaos Magic for the greater good.

All six episodes of WandaVision are available to stream on Disney+. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will debut in theaters on March 25, 2022.
