Loki Director Would Love To Make an MCU Spider-Man Movie
Even with one episode released so far, fans are already falling in love with Loki. The series, which sees an alternate "variant" of Tom Hiddleston's Loki become a captive of the Time Variance Authority, has created an enormous buzz, and it's well-earned.
The show is captivating and full of emotion. Die-hard MCU fans will most certainly be pulling every frame apart to look for hints towards the wider future of the MCU. Considering the first episode's mentions of a "multiversal war," there's plenty of hope the series will set up the events of films like Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
The show's director, Kate Herron, recently discussed another MCU property she'd love to take a stab at.
LOKI DIRECTOR EYEING A SPIDER-MAN PROJECT
Speaking recently with The Playlist, Loki director Kate Herron was asked if there was any specific Marvel character she'd like to develop after Loki. Herron made it clear that she'd love to continue working in the MCU, particularly in something involving everyone's favorite wall-crawler. She mentioned that working on a Spider-Man project "would be a dream."
“There are so many, you know... I’m a massive Spider-Man fan. That would be a dream of mine. I think Tom Holland is fantastic and I’ve really been enjoying his version of the character."
She went on to say she'd be open to Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige "[throwing] something else [her] way."
"But who knows? Kevin Feige is almost like my Time Keeper. So, if he wants to throw something else my way and control my destiny, that would be lovely."
AN EXPANDING POOL OF TALENT FOR MARVEL
It really is incredible that with 25+ projects in the MCU, Marvel shows no signs of slowing down. A lot of that can be attributed to the studio's willingness to embrace new talent and ensure that those who make hits are able to keep making them.
2017's Thor: Ragnarok, directed by Taika Waititi, completely overhauled the Thor franchise and brought fresh air to the character that carried over into Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Waititi's success was rewarded with him directing the next film in the franchise, Thor: Love and Thunder, which promises to have the same incredible atmosphere as Ragnarok.
Speaking of the last two Avengers films, there's another showcase of Marvel Studios holding onto successful directors. The Russo Brothers made their debut in the MCU with Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which was widely viewed as one of the best MCU films at the time of its release and continues to place high in many charts today. The brothers would go on to direct Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame.
If Loki continues at the pace it has so far, one can easily imagine Kate Herron having a role to play in future MCU projects. The show has an incredible vibe and is shot beautifully. Many fans would likely love to see what Herron could bring to the Spider-Man franchise. For now, fans should stay glued to their screens each Wednesday as five new episodes of Loki remain.
