The Witcher Season 2: Netflix Releases First Footage From Henry Cavill Series

The Witcher Henry Cavill Ciri

When Netflix started creating original content, they quite literally changed the game. Their very first shows, such as House of Cards, and Orange Is The New Black, were hits in every sense of the word. Of course, many others came after—one big example being the much revered and loved Stranger Things.

One would think that over time, Netflix would not be able to reach those same highs, especially with all of the streaming competition out there. But then came along The Witcher, starring Henry Cavill in the lead role.

The series was met with a luke-warm critical reception, but that didn't stop it from becoming one of Netflix's most watched series ever. Certainly fueled by the gaping hole that Game of Thrones left when it concluded, fans were flocking to the show in droves.

So obviously, the second season is anticipated by many. Thankfully, fans don't have to wait any longer to get their eyes on the very first footage from The Witcher's sophmore run.

During Netflix's Geeked Week event, the first footage from The Witcher's second season was unveiled to the world.

The brand-new trailer can be seen below:

Of course, not much footage was unveiled, with a massive twelve seconds of footage given to the fans—with Circi being in the center of the spotlight. While details within it are hard to make out, getting a first glimpse of the second season is a great thing, no matter how much of it Netflix is willing to show off.

On top of the brand new teaser, Netflix also announced that they are teaming up with CD Projekt Red, the developer behind the beloved The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt game, to host Witcher Con.

This virtual event will be held on July 9, 2021, and will be a celebration of the franchise, providing deep explorations of the lore, behind-the-scenes looks, and exclusive never-before-seen reveals. Sadly, if it's the announcement for a fourth Witcher game one's looking for, it's not going to be at this event.

The event will be live-streamed on Netflix and CD Projekt Red's YouTube and Twitch channels. Below you can find more details from the event.

THE NEW GAME OF THRONES

With the massive absence that Game of Thrones left, The Witcher has been the perfect show for many to fill in that empty spot. When it comes to large-scale medieval fantasy shows, there aren't very many of them.

Thankfully for them, talk around the town indicates that further seasons after the upcoming sophomore run are all but confirmed. Here's to hoping that the second season can improve upon the show's faults—with further seasons truly bringing back some quality grand-scale medieval fantasy to the world.
