Guardians of the Galaxy 3: Dave Bautista Is Urging James Gunn To Consider Clothes For Drax
Marvel Studios is gearing up to expand more into the cosmic side of the MCU over the coming years, continuing from big events in this regard at the end of the Infinity Saga.
This will restart as early as 2021 with November’s Eternals before the God of Thunder returns in exciting fashion with 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder. That movie will also feature the Guardians of the Galaxy before they move on to their own 2022 holiday special and their third solo movie in 2023.
One specific member of the team who’s been in the news recently is Dave Bautista, making his seventh and likely final appearance as Drax the Destroyer in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Although he’s lamented some of the faults in his character development, he remains encouraged by the MCU’s future and looks ready to go for his third solo outing.
In preparation for that movie, he even offered some fun jabs at his director in terms of a potential wardrobe update.
DRAX NEEDS AN OUTFIT ADJUSTMENT
Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn responded to a fan on Twitter who asked about Dave Bautista's Drax possibly wearing a version of his classic comic costume in Vol. 3.
Gunn jokingly shot the idea down by saying that it looks "too much like what Dave Bautista wears" in his everyday life:
That’s too much like what @DaveBautista wears in his regular life. #BautistaLoungeWear https://t.co/CchIY2Edu2

Bautista responded by urging Gunn to "think about it," trying to convince the director that it would not only "translate on to screen" but also "save production the cost of wardrobe."
"I still say it will translate on to screen! And save production the cost of wardrobe! Think about it!"
SHIRTS AND/OR CAPES IN AISLE 3?
Dave Bautista has certainly worked hard for his impressive physique through his years as both a wrestler and an actor, showcasing his work in all four of his MCU outings to date even under so much make-up work. However, he's also admitted to feeling that he's getting a little too old to continue this trend of shirtless outings as he does with Drax in the MCU.
Occasionally, in the comics, Drax has rocked a long purple cape with a collar on top, although that costuming choice hasn't made its way to Marvel Studios over the past seven years. At this point in time, that seems unlikely to change, especially after Drax made such a big deal about having "sensitive nipples" in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
Cape or no cape, Drax will have quite the expansive role to play over the next few years with Marvel Studios, particularly with Vol. 3 almost certainly ending the classic team's run in the movies. The alien warrior will look to take on a new journey after Thanos' demise, and he has plenty of roads down which he can travel with his galactic family.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will release in theaters on May 5, 2023.
