Spider-Man 3: No Way Home Trailer Leaks Online Early
Anticipation for the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer has entered a stratosphere beyond the perverbial fever pitch.
Since Jamie Foxx joined the film last October, fans have speculated that Tom Holland's threequel would be a live-action adaptation of the popular Spider-Verse comic run similar to 2018's critically-acclaimed Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse animated flick. Mix in a confirmed Alfred Molina reprising his role as Doc Ock from 2004's Spider-Man 2, and that multiversal speculation shifted into expectation.
With baddies from both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man franchises entering the fold, heads turned to the former Peter Parkers themselves. If their old adversaries were entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe, would they follow?
All the aforementioned speculation has made No Way Home's first footage among the most-anticipated trailers of all time. Rumored trailer drop days came and went, days turned into weeks, and weeks into months. After all that time, the wait is finally over.
Sort of.
SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME'S FIRST TRAILER HAS LEAKED
The Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer is here, but not in the way Marvel Studios or Sony Pictures intended.
The debut teaser for the highly-anticipated December release surfaced on all the major social media outlets, including Twitter, Tik Tok, and YouTube, only hours after accurate descriptions of the footage leaked on Reddit. This comes just one day before Sony Pictures is expected to reveal the first official trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home at CinemaCon 2021.
ON THE NIGHT BEFORE CINEMACON...
As Spider-Man: No Way Home enters unprecedented territory, what was once anticipation has turned into frustration.
Trailer leaks are nothing new. Way back in 2014, Marvel Studios announced the debut teaser for Avengers: Age of Ultron would premiere during an episode of Agents of SHIELD. Even though the trailer had a time and place set in stone, it still leaked a week early. This forced Marvel Studios to pivot, as they dropped the full HD trailer online shortly after the leak, comedically blaming Hydra for the mishap.
Marvel Studios still honored their promise of new footage during an Agents of SHIELD commercial break, dropping the clip of the Avengers attempting to lift Thor's hammer instead. Regardless, the leak still fumbled their original plans.
This brings Sony's CinemaCon playbook into question.
As of this article's release, Spider-Man: No Way Home still does not have an officially released trailer. Will Sony Pictures give in to the leak and drop an HD version early? Will they hold out and debut the footage at CinemaCon? If the CinemaCon footage was intended to be exclusive for those in attendance, will it now go public? Time will tell.
