Venom 2 Delay: Tom Hardy Sequel Planning to Take Morbius' 2022 Date

Sony Pictures is currently enjoying its time in the spotlight thanks to the long-anticipated arrival of the first trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home. With teases of Peter Parker's identity crisis along with looks at past Spidey villains and their iconic weaponry, fans will be dissecting every minute of footage over the weeks and months preceding this threequel's release.

On top of its next MCU venture, Sony is deep into preparation for Tom Hardy's solo sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage, which will continue the efforts of the box-office darling Venom from 2018. With Woody Harrelson taking on one of Marvel's most terrifying villains in Carnage, Eddie Brock and his symbiotic friend are set for a new adventure full of craziness and shenanigans.

The biggest trouble surrounding this movie has been settling in on a release date, which was recently moved from September 24 to October 15 due to COVID concerns. Now, this unfortunate trend appears to be continuing with delays for multiple Sony projects.

POSSIBLE DELAY FOR VENOM 2

Vulture reported that Sony Pictures is planning to delay Venom: Let There Be Carnage to January 21, 2022. This date currently holds the release for Sony and Marvel's Morbius, which also exists in Sony's Spider-Man movie universe. The announcement of the delay is likely to come after CinemaCon, which concludes on August 26.

A LONGER WAIT FOR THE SUMC

The entertainment industry has certainly had its fair share of problems with major theatrical releases, particularly looking at Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After numerous delays for Black Widow, Disney is now dealing with an extended lawsuit against star Scarlett Johansson, and there are already concerns for the box office returns for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings as well.

The case has been the same for Sony Pictures with both Jared Leto's Morbius and Tom Hardy's Venom sequel, particularly since Sony stands without a streaming service to help push the movies' releases worldwide. With more delays on the way, it seems clear that Sony wants to make sure it has the best chance possible for both films to be successful financially and critically.

The big question now is if Sony will make a similar decision on Spider-Man: No Way Home, which has the chance to be one of the biggest MCU movies ever made. There will still be some time until that decision is made, and fans will certainly be paying close attention to when Sony's next batch of superhero films comes to the public.
