Disney Reportedly Decides Fate of Marvel's Eternals Release

Eternals Disney

Marvel Studios is back in the business of a steady stream of releases thanks to its content on Disney+ and in theaters. What If…? and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings are currently off and running for fans worldwide to enjoy before one of the MCU’s most hyped projects in Eternals comes along in November.

Shang-Chi is making a particularly impressive run after its long-awaited debut by becoming the biggest Labor Day weekend box office movie in history by a wide margin. Making excellent use of its comparatively small budget and delivering some especially thrilling post-credits teases, the MCU’s 25th theatrical movie turned into a major success story for the ever-expanding Marvel narrative.

Due to the differing release strategies for Black Widow and Shang-Chi, fans and critics alike have pondered what Disney would decide to do for Academy Award-winner ChloĂ© Zhao’s blockbuster movie. With the MCU trending upwards once again in theaters, it seems that a decision has been made on the matter.

Insider Matthew Belloni, a former Hollywood Reporter editor, revealed through his What I'm Hearing newsletter that Disney has decided to give Eternals an exclusive run in theaters following the Labor Day box office success of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. As such, Eternals will premiere in theaters on November 5 with no availability on Disney+.

Another Theatrical Hit For The MCU?

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has been adamant about wanting the MCU's theatrical runs to stay in place for the full MCU experience that fans have loved for over a decade. With Shang-Chi proving it could be a financial success even in difficult times, it seems only right that Disney is making the same call for the release of Eternals.

The star-studded outing has already built up considerable anticipation amongst fans, particularly with the chance of it being the next MCU movie to be truly considered for Oscar-level praise. With Zhao's vision having reached near-mythological status and reports detailing her use of practical sets, Marvel seems confident that it has a bona fide winner on hand with the epic.

Now that this decision has reportedly been made, fans will certainly look forward to seeing how well the next film does with the challenges it will surely face. No matter what happens, there should be plenty of optimism thanks to Marvel Studios' staunch support for the movie's debut.

Eternals will premiere exclusively in theaters on November 5, 2021.
