Shazam 2 Director Confirms DC Films' Justice League Intro for Sequel
Warner Bros. is hard at work preparing a massive slate of content for the DCEU, which will deliver Zachary Levi's highly-anticipated sequel Shazam! Fury of the Gods. After coming in as one of the most well-reviewed movies in the franchise to date, Shazam! set the stage for the godlike hero to have quite an extended solo run alongside his superhero family.
Going up against intense new villains played by Hollywood icons Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu, Billy Batson and his alter-ego will be in for plenty of new challenges during his evolution as a hero. This will also come with an increasing level of popularity amongst fans, adding another layer of intrigue to everything he will have to deal with.
Outside of the core story Warner Bros. is developing in the DCEU, the franchise is looking to give the overall narrative a greater sense of continuity, with more sequels and origin stories making their debut. Part of that will come at the beginning of Levi's next outing as was recently revealed by the film's director.
Sandberg Teases DCEU Intro For Shazam! 2
Shazam! Fury of the Gods director David F. Sandberg posted a video on his Instagram account of the new opening logo for the DC Extended Universe, which highlights dozens of heroes from DC's Justice League.
He also pointed out in his caption how he "forgot" to include this fanfare in the first movie before joking about it potentially changing before the sequel releases:
"People freaked out when I forgot to put this intro in the first Shazam. Well it’s currently in the sequel. Let’s see if it stays. I mean who knows, by 2023 they could have a new logo or something."
Fixing A Shazam! 1 Mistake
Warner Bros. developed this new introduction that started playing in front of 2017's Wonder Woman and has come before nearly every DCEU outing for the past four years. However, Sandberg appears to have accepted the oversight of not including the short footage in front of his first outing, even finding some humor in the situation a couple of years after the fact.
This intro was most recently used ahead of James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, and it's expected that Warner Bros. will continue to use it for the four movies coming in 2022 as well. Although it won't have any direct impact on what's coming in the plot, it should ease Sandberg's conscience to bring it back this time as he continues his partnership with the DCEU.
Now that filming for Fury of the Gods is officially complete for the movie, the wait begins to find out more of what will come to the big screen after the now regular comic book movie intro.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods will premiere in theaters on June 2, 2023.
