Marvel Rumor Reveals Details for Shang-Chi Disney+ Spin-off Show
After being introduced in 2008's Iron Man, the Ten Rings organization was given the spotlight in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The Simu Liu-led film did a deep dive into the history of the shady organization anchored by Tony Leung's Wenwu a.k.a. the MCU's Mandarin.
The inclusion of the Ten Rings in Shang-Chi's narrative effectively introduced fans to a new corner of the MCU. From the group's lethal past all the way to its mysterious base of operations, Shang-Chi made sure that a better preview of the group would be pushed to the forefront so that fans will be more familiar with them.
At the end of the film, Wenwu's sacrifice during the final battle appeared to signal the end of the Ten Rings as fans knew it. However, Shang-Chi's post-credits scene proved that the organization is still running, but with a different leader in the form of Meng'er Zhang's Xialing, Shaun's sister.
The end tag of Shang-Chi revealed that the Ten Rings will return at some point, and now, a new report may have shed some light on that promise.
Shang-Chi Spinoff Rumored to Be in Development
Daniel Richtman, a reliable scooper, shared on his Patreon that a spinoff featuring the Ten Rings organization from Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is in development over at Marvel Studios.
Richtman also revealed that Meng'er Zhang's Xialing would serve as the lead character for the planned spinoff series, which, if officially greenlit, would stream on Disney+.
The Ten Rings Will Return...on Disney+?
While fans can take this rumor with a grain of salt, many would agree that it would make sense if Marvel Studios decided to pursue a spinoff revolving around the Ten Rings due to its untapped story potential.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' ending essentially laid the groundwork for the potential spinoff series, mainly because it gave the Ten Rings a fresh start under the leadership of Xialing.
It remains to be seen whether Shaun's sister will go in the same direction as Wenwu's nefarious goals for the organization or if she will choose to go for a much more noble path. That premise alone presents many story opportunities for the spinoff.
Interestingly, in a previous interview with The Direct, Meng’er Zhang teased that her MCU character is “like her father in many ways.” This quote could hint that she would use the Ten Rings for a dark purpose.
A Shang-Chi spinoff also allows other characters from the franchise like Simu Liu's Shaun and Awkwafina's Katy to return in some form. Given that it is centered around the Ten Rings, it also presents the opportunity for Tony Leung to come back as Wenwu for flashback scenes.
Fans can learn more about the Ten Rings since Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is still playing in theaters worldwide.
