The Mandalorian Season 3: Returning Actor Starts Filming
Following the conclusion of the controversial sequel trilogy with Rise of the Skywalker, the focus of Star Wars content has taken a quick shift over to streaming series. Disney and Lucasfilm have many theatrical projects in the works from talents such as Patty Jenkins, Taika Waititi, and Kevin Feige, but all of those look to be years down the line.
For now, Disney+ continues to be the focus of the Star Wars universe since The Mandalorian proved to be a viral phenomenon. In 2022 alone, fans will be treated to the conclusion of December's The Book of Boba Fett, spy-thriller Andor, the highly-anticipated Obi-Wan Kenobi series The Bad Batch Season 2, and Mando's third outing.
Ever since The Mandalorian's Season 2 finale shocked fans with a game-changing cliffhanger, anticipation has been through the roof for the third season. Unfortunately, almost a year after the last episode dropped, there appears to be little progress on the production of further episodes.
However, that seems to finally be changing as one Mandalorian actor has confirmed he will begin filming on Season 3 of the Disney+ series imminently.
The Mandalorian Actor Confirms Filming Start Date
The Mandalorian's Greef Karga actor Carl Weathers recently took to Twitter to confirm he will begin filming Season 3 of the Disney+ series tomorrow, October 13, 2021.
“Mandalorian, season #3 begins for Yours Truly, on tomorrow. Greef Karga will be back on Disney+. #BePeace”
Weathers' tweet also serves as the first confirmation that filming has begun on the highly-anticipated follow-up. Recent reports have suggested the cameras started rolling in September 2021 and will continue until March 2022.
So When Will Season 3 Hit Disney+?
Since Pedro Pascal is seemingly still in production on HBO's The Last of Us, it appears Disney is pushing ahead with filming even in his absence. Luckily, the helmet-wearing nature of Din Djarin would technically allow the studio to record most of the series without him and add his voice after the fact.
Granted, this almost certainly won't be the case and Pascal will probably be getting in front of the camera in a matter of weeks if he isn't already there. It's been reported for some time now that scenes have often been filmed for The Mandalorian without Pascal under the helmet, although those rumors remain unconfirmed.
With filming only just getting underway on The Mandalorian Season 3, fans should prepare themselves to wait until late 2022 or early 2023 for the season premiere. Fortunately for viewers, the two-year gap between seasons will be filled with The Book of Boba Fett, a spin-off series starring Temuera Morrison's iconic bounty hunter.
The bounty hunter's solo adventure won't be the only Star Wars content to hit Disney+ before Din Djarin returns to screens as Andor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and The Bad Batch Season 2 are all expected to premiere during 2022.
The Mandalorian's latest installment has left fans hankering for more after a dramatic cliffhanger sent Grogu into space with Luke Skywalker, and put Din Djarin on the path to the throne of Mandalore having wielded the Darksaber.
While some of these questions may be touched upon in The Book of Boba Fett, viewers will likely have to wait until Season 3 to get all the answers they're waiting for. Until then, the first two seasons of The Mandalorian are streaming now, exclusively on Disney+.
