Benedict Cumberbatch Teases 'Exciting' Doctor Strange 2 Reshoots

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

With shows like Loki and What If?, the Multiverse is on everybody's mind—something Spider-Man: No Way Home is only accentuating. It's a concept that allows for nearly limitless possibilities; how else could Marvel have pulled five villains from previous Spider-Man franchises together for one movie?

After Tom Holland's next adventure, it will be time for Benedict Cumberbatch's next solo outing, one which promises to be the biggest dive into the vast Multiverse yet. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will also bring back Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch and introduce newcomer Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez.

Recently, Cumberbatch teased that Doctor Strange 2 is set to have reshoots around this time of the year. The actor was recently seen on Jimmy Kimel Live!, where he briefly teased the exciting new additions to the film.

Doctor Strange actor Benedict Cumberbatch visited Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where he was able to tease the reshoots which he is actively doing for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

The actor said that it's all "really exciting" and that "the film's shaping up to be something special:"

"Like everything with Marvel, it comes in fresh most mornings [laughs], despite these being reshoots.  But no, it's really exciting. The film's shaping up to be something special."

What Could Doctor Strange 2 be Adding?

It's important to note for clarity how reshoots are a normal part of the Marvel Studios production process, so this is absolutely not a bad sign. That said, what could it be possibly adding?

Well, without knowing the full plot, it's hard to say for sure. One possibility could simply be more Multiverse cameos and/or references for the fans. The studio could also be incorporating little plot beats to smooth over recent MCU continuity—so possibly additional scenes referencing the events of Loki or What If...?.

In the past, reshoots haven't really been used to reshape the entire story of a project, so fans shouldn't worry about director Sam Raimi's vision and unique elements disappearing.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to hit theaters on May 6, 2022.
