Spider-Man: No Way Home's Cumberbatch Deflects Tobey Maguire & Andrew Garfield Questions

As is the case seemingly daily at this point, there is no movie in Hollywood dominating the news rounds like Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures' Spider-Man: No Way Home. Even considering everything else the MCU has offered and will continue to offer through 2022 and beyond, Tom Holland's Spidey threequel is already living up to its billing as the most ambitious solo superhero movie ever made.

Peter Parker will team up with Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange as the Sorcerer Supreme attempts to help Peter with his identity crisis, leading to the Multiverse literally going into complete chaos. Already confirmed to enter the fray from the first trailer are Doctor Octopus and the Green Goblin, and they will have plenty of powerful backup with Jaime Foxx's Electro and more.

Most recently, chatter has centered around the potential arrival of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as their respective Spider-Men in this outing, although Marvel and Sony have not confirmed anything on that front.

While this would undoubtedly be a historic moment in MCU history, all parties involved are using any means necessary to avoid the inevitable questions they will have to answer regarding Maguire and Garfield. The most recent round of this came from a chat with Benedict Cumberbatch, and in hilarious fashion, at that.

Cumberbatch Won't Touch Garfield Spidey Rumors

In an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, MCU star Benedict Cumberbatch skirted questions about the rumored castings of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

When Kimmel mentioned how people believe both actors will be reprising their role in this sequel, Cumberbatch gave a surprised look while responding, "Do they?"

The Doctor Strange star also revealed that the only time he's seen Garfield recently was "in Tick Tick Boom," although Kimmel pushed by asking if the two had interacted in person together.

Cumberbatch only revealed that they had been on the same Zoom call in recent times, but wouldn't go any further than that:

"No. I saw him on a Zoom call recently for a roundtable, and in Tick Tick Boom"

Garfield & Maguire - The Worst-kept Spidey Secret?

Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's comebacks as Spider-Man have been a scorching hot topic of discussion for most of the past year as the cast of Spider-Man: No Way Home continues to expand. Now, with the film just over a month away from its long-awaited release, those talks have only increased drastically in quantity throughout the movie community and fandom.

Garfield himself teased his inclusion in the movie at the Tick Tick Boom premiere by answering a fan question about his casting with "We'll see." Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has even commented on these rumors surrounding Garfield and Maguire as well, and fans are still talking about the potentially leaked photos showing them in costume alongside Tom Holland.

Safe to say, this movie will be the talk of the comic book movie community for most of the next five weeks, no matter what actually comes on the news front.

Whether Marvel and Sony show Garfield and/or Maguire in the anticipated second trailer is a mystery, but it's a topic that will likely be avoided at all costs in interviews with potential and confirmed crew members in the immediate future. As the journey for No Way Home continues, the anxiety and hype for its content will only continue to grow.

Spider-Man: No Way Home will debut in theaters worldwide on December 17, 2021.
